[Closed] Maximum number of spacers under the stem?

Is there a 'maximum' number of stem you should use under your stem?

As im quite tall i like to get the bars at a decent height (with my frame having a short HT), so im running 35mm, maybe 40mm of spacers using a 100mm length fork. Im guessing too many spacers would prevent you from tensioning the headset bearings properly?

Any advice appreciated.

A good rise on the stem and bars is preferable. But 40mm doesn't sound excessive.

Rockshox says 30mm in the manual I think

I imagine its to do with the steerer tube not supposed to take loads of torque from the stem - top headset bearing race

I know people running about 50 and 60mm without any problems though

You should be able to preload the headset properly no matter how many (practically) you have

Rockshox state 30mm as a limit for forks with carbon steerers, IIRC (so top-end Rebas and SIDs only?). Nothing specified as a limit for forks with metal steerers ๐Ÿ™‚

As many as you want. 40 mm is a lot but not totally ridiculous. It can have no effect on tightening the headset - they are to all intents and purposes incompressible given the amount of force to tension a headset
