Have an Alu Sirroco frame which I love but the drive side BB thread is completely mashed! I have bodged it with chemical metal but there is still some play in the crank so I assume it will get worse quickly!

Is there a threadless BB shell I can use or could the threads be re-tapped... help please!

New baby means new frame (even an 'old' new frame)out of the question!

A

My Prophets off there this week, when I get my bottom into gear.
£60 for the one side or £90 for both, with a £10 or so P&P back apparently. Sale's person say they like to keep it a week to make sure it bonded 🙁

Have heard say that bob jacksoncycles can offer a similar service

If email sent you mean to Betd, don't bother awaiting the reply, pack up the frame and send it in with a note: what you want done and contact details, so they can ring you for the payment. I've rung twice (mines been bust 5 months, and just packed it this week) & that what they say to do.
They seem to prefer to fit the new BB, asking me to send in a BB for them to fit (got to re-open my box...).

Lots of thread on here about it, so I'm imagining it must be reliable.

Oh and they did ask for a seat post & clamp to make it easier to work on the frame.

The frame could be retapped to a Italian threading (it's larger at 36mm) but then you would need an external BB with Ital threads (road BB) and use the axle pipe from a 68/73mm BB (as Ital BB shells are 70mm wide). A square taper 70mm Italian BB could run in a 68mm shell with a spacer. This would be cheaper.

I have the same problem on an alu frame 🙁

Wondering if these press fit BB's are a possibile solution?

I was hoping some one would suggest that! I have no idea but there must be something out there.. I have heard rumours but nothing conclusive. If it only costs £70 with p&p it is money well spent to get it sorted with BETD!

filling the threads with filler adhesive doesnt work at all

There is a simple square taper BB that pushes straight in.

Being captain tight pants - I would go for this option.

I would give one of those a try but I need a 73mm shell and can't fine one anywhere. Hence looking at the external press fit ones, just not sure if they are a viable solution.

I spoke to Argos this morning about having my frame repaired. Argos wins on three counts for me:

1. It's local, so no postage
2. It's cheaper (£75 vrs £90 at BETD for both sides)
3. I think the Argos repair method is possibly better. They fit a one piece full witdth steel threaded sleeve. Not saying there is anything wrong with BETD helicoil method, I'm sure it's a sound repair. I have used them with good results on ally engine blocks with stripped manifold threads. But to my mind the one piece insert is preferable.
