Just a thought, or rambling....

Chatting to a mate today while out biking we wondered if you take a P7 (can take a 140mm fork) or an On-One 456, could you fit a 100mm Reba 29er style to ethier of these fit a 29" wheel to the front and run a 26" wheel on the back??

Would this cause any problems?? or is there any frames out there better suited??

We almost have one of them in our clearance / specials stock.

I'd be interested to see your results

Dirt Magazine tested a 456 with a reba 29er, they liked it a lot.

TBH it was a conversation, myself and my biking buddy where in Swinno's at Cannock Chase, they have the Trek 69er on display, i commented that for £1300 thats alot of cash for a single speed bike!

We got outside him on his 456 and me with a P7 currently being built and we discussed the possibilities of building up 69er from what we already had, seeing as the 456 is superbly priced we thought of building one, thats why i came on here for some advice.

I tried a 29er front wheel from a Gary Fisher on my 853 Inbred SS. 'Cos I've got rigid carbon forks the wheel went straight in. Felt ok, I didn't have chance to really try it out as the disc rotor was only 160mm, but if I could get hold of a cheap wheel I'd give it a real go. Only on sharp turns did the front sort of 'flop', but it was barely noticeable.

I asked the same question. Reply here.

A quick summary seems to be
- If you want to go up, along and down you might struggle with any suspension.
- If you just want to go down it'll work.

I looked at the numbers - any 29er fork, even with 80mm travel, will be long. You'll gain >60mm through the wheel, so 80mm travel will be about the same as 26er with 140mm. But 80mm will only have ~25mm sag whereas 140mm will run ~40mm sag. So, you'll lift the front & slacken the steering by ~15mm. A 100mm fork will make that bigger still. Or at least I think so ...

been running my Airbourne ti Hag with a 29er front wheel in a 440 rc31 for two years, bit of a barge on the real tight u turny bits, but apart from that,it gets me round t'Chase well enough (and Peaks/welsh centers, etc) 😉

go for it.
