In the ride and what there uses are.
Anyone had both?
I assume you're referring to the pre-2010 Enduro?
There are subtle differences to the frame which make for a different riding character. Visually. the Pitch doesn't have the swoopy top tube and a rather crude brace in place of the Enduro's formed seat tube brace.
The suspension linkage is also different on the Pitch too. The Enduro was fitted with a Specialized proprietary shock, while the Pitch came with either an RP2 or an X-Fusion depending on the trim level. Pre-2009 Enduros also had the Specialized E150 fork fitted too.
From the people I know who've ridden both (I've never tried a Pitch myself), the Pitch is generally preferred. How much of it is down to shock or linkage tuning I can't say for certain but the chaps I know who work in Spesh dealers who were lukewarm about the Enduro all seemed to rave about the Pitch.
On paper the uses are similar, both are six inch all mountain bikes and the Pitch is supposedly the budget version but there you go...
I have a 2010 Enduro so could give you some detail on that (brief ride on a Pitch but not enough as pass comment).
Very slack but very light for the amount of travel is how I'd sum it up, in a nutshell. It's my first FSR bike and I was luke-warm with it until I had the shock pushed by TF, really loving it after that.
As for it's use I use it to ride Glentress and Inners and anything I'd class as trail riding but have also raced a few enduro's on it and taken it down all the DH tracks at Inners with exception of the matador. It's a bit overkill for purely trail centre riding but throwing in the Enduro races I like it from the point of view that it's a bike that will cover both bases. It can cope with uplift days but it's no DH bike (notwithstanding the more limited travel it feels too light on DH tracks when the speed picks up).
It's light enough to climb but the slackness is certainly a hindrence in that regard (I've had the lyrics converted to u-turn which has helped).
Overall I rate it, but it definitely needs the shock tuned if it's the RP2.
I have a Pitch and it's an Awesome bike which has the rear shock pushed but could do with a Talas/ U turn fork IMO
Reason I ask is that I believe Spesh is doing away with the pitch so is the Enduro a worthy replacement/filler
of course, the pitch was just a cheaper option than the enduro basically, the basic suspension performance (obviously depending on shock setup) is the same.
Riding a pitch pro and an enduro expert (both 2011's) back to back the pitch is definitely the better all-rounder. Both are good, so have focussed more on the negatives: -
Pitch
Pro's = Lighter (but not necessarily 'better' uphill as the granny ring is a 26 compared to the enduro's 22), more playful, (dare I say better looking?), more nimble on singletrack, better saddle - for me anyway, great all-round tyres with the eskars
Cons = Not as solid feeling over large rocks (more fork flex), some cheap components (third BB in 8 months 😐 , sloppy shifters, poor cable routing, the brakes aren't the best, rear flex over the big stuff but not that noticeable, cable rub / poor routing from new, white grips last about 5 mins 😛 , has a weird sticky / inertial feeling when slow (I'm totally useless on a pump track with it) and is tough to speed up so really needs to be pointing either up or down or keep your speed, stock rims not tubeless. Finally it's long, so forget keeping up with friends on switchbacks. I seem to get pedal strikes more on the pitch too for some reason. You need to be more careful picking awkward lines / avoid roots too with the pitch.
Enduro
Pro's = Solid 'point and go', not too bad uphill, can do pretty much anything, much better components, great rear shock. Skims over bumps better than the pitch.
Cons = Too much bike for 50% of what I do. Its really awkward to pick up and lift over stuff as there's nowhere to put your hands, a nice stiff fork good on the big hits but I actually prefer the sektor as an every day fork, stupid bottle holder position (you need to almost touch the BB), the stock tyres aren't too good in the wet, dropper seat post (I hope one day I can have babies after it's first use)
£1500 'trail' bike vs £3500 'enduro' bike. In terms of geometry and slackness they ride quite similarly TBH, but the enduro's slightly relaxed angles become more apparent downhill. I've minced mini DH's on the pitch as stock (different pedals / tyres) and it was fine.
Even if they were the same price though, I'd still go for the pitch as it's a playful terrier compared to the alsation enduro ... or something 🙂
[edit]
I've been told by a fella in the know that next years enduro's will all be coil shocked ~170mm, the reason for no pitch is that the 150mm duties will be carried out by the stumpy range. Plus the 2011 pitch is a fancy circa 2009 stumpy anyway. Rare as hens teeth too now TBH
Pitch - looks like it was knocked up in someone's shed, low BB, cheap components 😉
Gets raved about though so can't be bad at all, just when I see any of the three that come out with us, they leave me feeling like they are a bike I might have owned 5-10 years ago.
Only fault I can find with my '08 Enduro is lack of small bump sensitivity on the proprietry shocks and that it's not (quite) as good as the old '06 Enduro it replaced. In every other respect, it's a fantastic all round bike - oh and it climbs fantastically well.

I think your person in the know doesn't know too much.
a 2012 enduro earlier...
Fair enough! I have an urge to get a mirror, load up that second image, put it in front of the laptop and go all waynes world, like WHOAAA 🙂
go for it!
