have the opportunity to purchase a second hand set of julie's.

how do they compare to deore's offering?

if i buy them deore will go onto GF bike.

experiences? heavier? modulation? etc etc.

many thanks

There is a new Julie for 2009, basically its a Louise caliper with a different lever so its high pressure. the old Julie was low pressure but that said the ones I've owned have been great, good power and modulation, a great all round brake IMO.

Never heard anything bad about them.

I had older Julies once - the lever body was plastic and bent quite a bit when I pulled on it - don't know if newer ones sorted that issue.

I'd personally go for the new Deore ones but don't think there'd be much in it on both for weight/functionality

I'm a big fan of the Magura brakes. I've had 2 sets of Julies on my bikes and a further set on the SO bike. Never had any problems with reliability on them after several years.
I'm now running a couple of sets of Louise Carbons in their place.
I'll found the feel of Magura much nicer than those of Hope and Avid. Never ridden a bike with Shinanos so can't comment on that.

seen the julie's come in at 420g & 440g, front & rear, respectively....

can't find similar info on shimano.

are julie the entry level offering from magura?

recommend any others? i live on the edge of the alps so decents are sometimes long and heavy on the brakes. pref white.

thanks

J
