MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
so after reading all sorts of stuff whats best to put on my forks after a ride . If owt. And what do i do to them. Bit of oil bounce about wipe and repeat ? Also what do i use. Never bothered before but dont want to ruin my latest forks. Fox by the way. Ta
don't worry about it, the fox with ruin themselves anyway.
Clean the stanchions?
A good clean and a blast with some silicone spray should keep them happy
when you lift the seals to lube the foam rings get a piece of sticker backing paper(the stuff you get stickers on in mag freebies) and cut a piece about 1/2inch wide and 6inch long and run between the stantion and seal (smooth side against seal) and twist and pull it through and it pulls any grit out thats trapped in seal and stops any stantion wear then drip some float fluid on foam rings. works a treat
I've run Fox for years without any stanction issues. Clean the stanchions after each ride, even if it's just a rub down with a baby wipe. DO NOT LIFT THE WIPERS. It's a great way to slip and gouge the stanchion. Before a ride, I invert the bike (overnight if I know I'm off out), this soaks the foam rings. After cleaning, I use finishline stanchion lube but you can't get it in the UK. Otherwise I use a little dab of Float Fluid, let capilary action pull it all the way around the seal, cycle the forks a few times and wipe off the excess. Failing that, fork oil.
I also switched to Enduro Fork seals if and when the originals give up. Over a year on my oldest set and the oil looked new when I serviced them recently.
I just smear the stanchions with a little finish line green/wet lube, cycle the fork a few times and wipe off. 20sec job. TFT recommend any teflon lube.
Not owned Fox myself but the accepted wisdom is to make sure you don't run out of oil in the lowers, as that's when you'll knacker bushes and stanchions.
cheers chaps 😉
fork juice here too its damm good stuff.
