I need to update my body armour which I got second hand about 10 years ago.

It will be used for uplift most of the time so weight isn't too much of an issue.

I'm looking for back, chest and shoulder protection as a minimum.

I know it's not the current trend, but I wear elbow pads (after a series of historic injuries). Is it worth including elbow protection?

Due to the current climate it needs to be reasonably affordable - ideally <£100 (dreaming?), max £150.

Any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks. 🙂

I got a Bliss bodysuit a couple of years ago...big back/spine place with pads also on shoulders, chest and elbows. Its really comfy to wear on uplifts but I haven't tried riding up hill in it ever.

Here's the rub though..it should have been north of £200 but I got it for £63 in a sale.

Therefore, in true STW style, I haven't answered your question, sorry! 🙂

I'd scour the sales and secondhand on eBay and Pinkbike.

If you say your size, someone here might have something to offload as well.

I'd stick with separate elbows for flexibility and comfort, if you already have pads you like. Hard to get the fit right IME.

A timely thread. Also watching this as I think it'll be worth taking some body armour to morzine in a few weeks.

(looking for chest/back protection, 42-44" chest)

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I would love some Leatt if I can find some that's affordable.

I'm ~ 44" chest if there's anything knocking about.

I've found some motocross gear that looks like it might work,  any reason to discount it?

No idea about the Raven kit.

I'd echo the separate elbow pads, just for flexibility, also having longer arms means they sit where I need them to.

Troy Lee 7850 kit here, bounced off the Alps a few times in it now and has been good so far!

What do you want armour for?

I have the bliss one mentioned above for light duties and the leatt stuff when the DH bike comes out.

I have the leatt stealth armour and it's super comfortable and doesn't get too hot but it's not cheap. Gives back, chest and shoulder protection and doesn't restrict movement. In Morzine at the moment and temp gauge on the lift was showing 40c yesterday and I didn't boil alive in it waiting in line.
