Etape Du Tour Act 1 or 2. Although there are a "few" riders. Why don't you want the big groups? Makes it more of event in my opinion!

I thought 25,000 riders would be a bit heavy? carnage at times?

Maratona Dles Dolomites (Italy) http://www.maratona.it/en/ and
Quebrantahuesos (Spain) http://www.quebrantahuesos.com/ are the two Euro sportives that interest me the most, not done either yet though but hoping to do the Maratona next year (it's just a pain you've got to commit to it so early due to demand for places).

What's wrong with the Tour of Flanders?

There wasn't 25k riders (more like 15k) but if you did the full 250kms distance it certainly wasn't crowded.

Well 10,000 can enter the Etape, 8,000 entered this years act 2, about 4,000 finished. No carnage, was riding on own for maybe 20 miles. Really great atmosphere too!

The UFOLEP BRS series is good. Typically attracting 1500 - 2000 riders.
The series runs throughout the year.
Non-licenced riders can enter with a medical certificate.
They are very well organised.
I've done a couple of them. They are fast, and hard.
Info on the 2012 series here...

Info' on the 2013 will be posted when available.

La Marmotte is a classic. Tough route, great atmosphere.

Etape du Tours are well organised but no route details for 2013 yet. A few rumours suggest it might be a tough one!

i did tour of flanders this year - the full distance. it wasn't carnage at all, was good to be around other riders for the whole distance and the feed stops were well run and managed. I'd definitely recommend it.
