Been told I've got Post Viral Fatigue - not as bad as it could have been but still means I can't ride as much as I'd want for the next few months.

To anyone who has even been off the bike for an extended period - how do / did you cope?

I had 12 weeks off the bike due to a variety of broken bones after being hit by a car, I just did loads of walking, and it was shite boring. Shirley with pvf you could still do some easy pootles, to stretch the legs a bit and get you moving. I though gentle excercise when recovering from pvf was encouraged? Might not be riding as much as you want, but it's better than nowt.

I'm in the forces and often have long spells off the bike. DVD's help, follow me,roam, seasons, find, home, life cycles soon, earthed series. Try to concentrate on future projects, new builds, skills you want to work on,future road trips. Chris Ball's new book - mountain bike the manual is a really good read as well.
I use the gym (cv and weights) as alternative fitness and tell myself it all helps my riding when i eventually get back to it.
None of the above replace riding but try and get your fix any way you can!

Bushwacked - hey, a diagnosis has been made so at least your uncertainty has ended.

I can't really offer any sensible suggestions, currently off the bike myself so can empathise with your predicament.

Make plans for next year, look at maps, work out interesting routes, research new areas to investigate, check out local history of your favourite riding areas.

Don't beat yourself up. ๐Ÿ™‚

I ended up buying a ps3 and a turbo trainer, keeps me entertained. 9 weeks so far, assessment tomorrow - hope to be told the bones have fused. Most likely won't be offroading until January ๐Ÿ™

Find another hobby - I had 10 months off with a broken leg, so got a PS2 with Grand Turismo, built a new hardtail and watched Dave ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

CG - yeah Dr came back with Blood results - apparently I had Glandular fever and has basically told me its going to be a while. I'm staying really positive but need my fix.

For the next few weeks / months I'm gonna be pacing myself until back to strength. At the moment I can barely manage a 30min walk wihtout feeling the side effect, but I know that will change.

Got the idea of getting my wife to drop me off at the top of the local trails then ride down them once I feel a little better.

Like the idea of a PS3 and stripping down my bike.

I was off it for over three months with a broken collar bone. It was fine, its just a flippin' bike after all. And there are plenty pubs.
