Hi folks- this old thread has me intrigued.
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/llanberis-not-snowdon-route-recommendations-please

I'm going to try to contact the various members who posted previously but does anyone else have access to a map/ gpx of the various routes alluded to around Ffachwen, Moel y Ci, Marchlyn Mawr etc? Cheers in advance if you are happy to share.

Ambrose

Moel y ci is a good short route. There is also the dh track to play on. If you are about in the Llanberis Area over the next few days drop me an email on rhid14@hotmail.com if you want someone to show you a few routes?

Why not do Snowdon? There are at least four good routes off it, if you include ridable cheeky.

Thanks guys- Monkeysfeet, I couldn't find any Ffachwen area routes there, did I miss something.
Rhid- I probably won't be up until Easter, I'll give you a shout then. In the meantime, where does the DH start?

Munrobiker, I know, I'm looking for variety. Snowdon is a great ride though, I agree 🙂

It starts in the woods at the very top of moel y ci. If you tide into the woods via the fire road from the car park in mynydd Llandegai you can easily puck it up and follow it to top.

fachwen is mostly known as a tough road climb, you can get to it by going to the end of the llanberis lake at brynrefail.
If you carry on climbing and link with the marchlyn climb it's half the altitude of the alp duez

Hi there BM, thanks. The road up to Fachwen I know well, is the 'Marchlyn climb' the gate with all the junk and the CCTV signs?

Hiya Ambrose.

Got your email, but sadly lost the original copies of the routes when we lost a hard drive a month or so ago.

Yes, they're backed up.
No, I have no idea where. 😀

I'll get them to you (and to everyone else who has contacted me) as soon as I find them - they're attached to an email somewhere, I'll dig them out when I have a minute.

Could I suggest getting yourself lost on the slate quarry tracks and the. Finding you way out?

Obviously a bit of care needed but the tracks can be amazing! Early mornings required as the good stuff is super cheeky

More than happy to do that Ollie, but not keen to annoy people too much.

Yes the marchlyn climb is the one with the CCTV, cycling is allowed so you won't get any hassle.
Keep on the main road for the top dam or turn left for the surge pond, at the hairpins you can link to the quarry, take spare tubes. From here you can follow a doubletrack to dinorwic and pick up another track which takes you down to nant peris.

I can let you have GPX trails for Moel y Ci (XC not downhill) and the slate quarries. Email on profile.

Wish people would stop encouraging cheeky riding on Snowdon. It's not cheeky, it's just plain disrespectful to some of our own who have put an awful lot of volunteer time into stopping a TRO being slapped on the mountain banning bikes altogether.
