Looking to build up a bike for longer road rides.

Budget is key and I am keen to use a host of bits I already have.

Need not be flashy, in fact more than happy with bog standard. 🙂

At present this is winning >>

But a part of me thinks ..... sell the older MTB stuff and get a Scandal for minimum weight etc.

Any thoughts ..... suggestions?

I bought a handsome dog rockhound frame for the same money (as a cheapy jump bike) and it's quite a nice frame, especially for the price.

Would it not be easiear to get an older frame off ebay that still has vbrake mounts, something loke a Trek 8000 or similar.

Any reason you want to build up a mtb for road use, would a road bike not be the simple answer? Cheap as chips second hand.

My Scandal didn't have V-brake mounts, do you mean Inbred?

Actually the new Inbred doesn't either: http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROO26INSLT2NDGEN/on-one-inbred-26er-slot-dropout-frame-2nd-gen

I had though the second hand route but finding a nice looking one (condition wise) for under £100 is pretty hard.

Re the scandal .... I meant sell my non disc compatible components and get some disc wheels.

A road bike would be simpler but wouldn't use any of my spare kit 🙁

seem to be plenty of options down the old frame route on ebay?
you planning to use rack and panniers?

The Dirty Jo Triple Butted frames are less than £100 new, if you can get hold of one. Have v-brake mounts and are very light for the price...

Check out these frames HERE

If lightweight for not much money is what you're after, I reckon they're hard to beat. A few people on here have had them and rate them well!

EDIT: Though I should add, if it were me I'd probably sell the old stuff and just buy a second hand road bike... Obviously, entirely up to you though and whatever you go for I hope you like it!
