Thinking of getting a new wheel for my 29er bikepacking bike. After something really stiff as I find the DT swiss wheel that came on the bike is laterally very flexi. The added weight of a large seatpack and me wearing a back pack all add to the weight.

Can't decide whether the am 35mm wide rim is overkill and a 30mm carbon rim with a 36h hub would be really stiff anyway

Thanks

Shirely the point of the 35mm rims, is to use them with wide tyres, to get a wide profile.. so 2.4's & above? (my view is that 2.3's would be lost on that size rim, correct me if I'm wrong)
Do you use that size for bikepacking, if so fair play & get on with it buying the 35's

I have a 2.25 (nominal) Smorgasbord on a 40mm external rim and it works fine - you get the same advantages of better sidewall support for running lower pressure as you would with a fatter tyre, but with a bit less width and weight of tyre. For my use (I'm running 20psi - though the loadings are different as I go a lot slower) I wouldn't want narrower than 35mm with that, and that's already seeming kind of narrow.

You have probably answered my question. No, I use 2.2 wide tyres
