Morning all,
Off to Les Gets in 4 weeks, it is my first biking holiday out of the UK (taking my Commencal Meta 5) so after any tips possible on things like :
Must do runs
Bike setup
Eating out
What to take with other than the obvious pads and helmets
ETC
Someone that works in the local bike shop told me tubeless is useless out there and to use downhill tubes!?
Cheers in advance
Must do run would be the ride out over to Switzerland. Some great riding on the way, incredible views.
When you get there, the xc descent to Champery is really good and different and of course the world cup track is a good laugh to have a go at but take it easy, its steep! ๐
Also, head over to Morgins for a day. Its quieter over there than the Morzine motorways and they have some fantastic tracks. Its worth hooking up with someone who has done it before though as getting lost is a possibility as is missing the bus you need to get back to Chatel at the end of the day for the last lift. Arranging a shuttle back in a van is the easiest.
Usual things like sun cream and brake pads. Don't rule out wet weather. Set of mud tyres are useful but you can still have brilliant fun without them.
Eating in les gets in the day, there is a wicked cafe that does Panini and baguettes etc and you sit out on the street. Opposite quite a good bike shop underground. Forget the name but you'll find it.
Have fun ๐
I'm in a similar situation got some good responses here First Alps Trip
Get the trail map out and ride everything (I liked The Gully/Canyon and there is lots more accessed with a bit of pedalling) ! Make sure you have lunch at Mont Caly on a nice day, fabulous view, great local food, tiny village. Reached via Mont Chery lift and a pleasant pedal. Return to LG via Dans la Gaz easy black or red/blue options. Take a trip over to Morgins, runs down into Morzine from Avoriaz are good. If you go to the PPdS website there is a trail map of that route and you can see the general layout. Bars / food we did most of our drinking out at bar at the Morzine end of village on RHS next to it there is a small sandwich place.

I ran singe ply high rollers with DH tubes in all week in Morzine with no problem, enjoy it it great fun but ont be fooled by the lifts.........after a few runs the first day we were knAckered.....but ort of gt used to it.
If your doing lift assisted then just go for the big tubes and tyres.
Some of the stuff not on the map is awesome and mental!! So long as your heading down towards the lift it's all good.
Last time I was there all the easy runs were mobbed by muppets on big bikes. Some of the harder runs aren't that bad and empty.
Dual ply high rollers and heavier inner tubes work for me.

Ditto, but Morzine in 4 weeks.
Got the Arete du Berroi out to Champery pencilled in. Probably have to get in some turns in the Chatel-Linga area, and a day out to Mont Chery.
Skied there many times - will be weird seeing the place without snow.
