Looking at buying one or the other for my rucksack just wondering what other peoples thoughts are. It needs to be for biking camping etc
I've had a Skeletool for a while & just got a Sidekick for work. Mainly because I kept losing the driver bits from the Skeletool.
The Wingman is a bit cheaper, but the saw on the Sidekick seemed a bit more useful than the scissors.
Bought a wingman for my brothers birthday, not up to the quality of other more expensive leatherman tools although this is reflected in the price. In this price range I would go for http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gerber-22-01471-Suspension-Multi-Plier/dp/B000EDPT9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364042336&sr=8-1 at less than £20 its a bargain. The leatherman fanbois will be along soon to tell you the gerber is rubbish, I have one and an expensive (crunch) leatherman. I assure you there's very little in it quality-wise between those two and that the gerber definitely feels much more solidly made than my brothers wingman.
+1 for the gerber
Hi, the huntsman is 100% UK legal to carry,
Where as the wingman should you be stopped you would have to provide good reason for carrying due to the fact it has a locking blade.
The suspension the same as the wingman as far as the law and is good value for money but the blades are quite small for the size of the tool.
I carry a leatherman cs4 as its legal and has good size pliers for the size of the tool,
But quite expensive.
+2 for the Gerber.
No knife is 100% "legal".
I've got various LM's and SAK's. Skeletool CX, Charge Ti, SAK Climber and a LM Juice s2.
Really like 154cm blades. Love love love the scissors on the s2. Overall the one I carry most is the Charge Ti with a bit driver extender and a selection of bits. The pliers on the Charge are perfect. Coupled with a Crank Bros 17 multitool pretty much covered for the average day out.
Had various Gerbers but always unimpressed with the quality, amount of play and wear, poor pliers not matching up and cheap blades. LM also has an exceptional warranty.
You are not breaking the law carrying a non locking folder with a blade of 3" or under.
But you still need to excercise common sense, as in it would be unwise to take one to a pub or football match for instance.
Swiss Army knifes are well known and I would happily take one out in public.
Where As my charge TTI I carry at work I would not as the blades lock and are very large and are quit aggressive looking in my opinion.
As a side note in my riding bag I have a leatherman blast on which I have removed the main blade and put a spacer in its place and have a separate single bladed SAK.
LM also has an exceptional warranty.
True, this is what happened to my £70 crunch when I tried to undo a screw on my cracked number plate.[IMG]

To be fair they replaced the whole tool free and with no quibble but considering I was able to undo the same screw using the nail file on my swiss army knife keyring I was less than impressed.
Gerber, those suspensions are mad cheap at the mo.
i'd buy another one but i've got one and a 600 (which is a lot lighter than a suspension.)
for balance the LM's i've had have been poor. I've never kept them.
I've been carrying a proper (locking) Swiss army knife for 15 years.
ThAt in itself is pretty amazing coz ive lost or broken just about everything else.
It's as good today as the day I bought it. My experience is that carrying knives in your pack should not be a problem since your not exactly consealing a weapon if you have to stop, take it off your back and rummage before you can use it.
The SAK's llittle Phillips screwdriver fits every pozi or + screw I've ever tried it in, usually after I've tried all my 'proper' screwdrivers.
Plus it has a cork screw, which was essential then but not so now.
