[#4971862]

I’ve been contemplating joining a cycling club for a while and just discovered the Lancs Road Club have rides starting about 2 miles from my house.

I would prefer to join a club which does both road and MTB. This lot appear to do only road, but that’s ok.

Anyone in this club and/or experiences they want to share, along the lines of are they ok or is it super cliquey?

Cheers
PL

Horwich do both mountain bike, cyclocross (in a big way!) and road. Perhaps check them out (I'm a member - so I would say that). 🙂

Pretty sure their secretary posts on here and rides MTB
Dont think lancs road club ride anything [officially] other than road.
As for cliquey probably no worse than this place but never ridden with them

I believe the Lanc rd club are a good bunch with a lot of members.

I'm a Horwich member so can only comment here, great bunch of people. lots of different interests throughout the club (TT, Road, Cyclocross!, 3 peaks, MTBing etc).

theres a few in the club doing the Whinlatter challenge, Midlands xc, Malham Tarn attack plus the midweek madness races in the summer.

I'm from Turton btw (where you from)? keep an eye on the horwich website for upcoming rides (you'd be more than welcome).

If you wanna ride local or have any questions give me a shout 😉

I can't believe any one club can be more cliquey than another. If the club is well run so that beginners are made welcome and directed to the right group, you should have a great day out.

Hey Papa Laz,

not cliquey at all. Thanks Sefton and Junky. Feature on us in Cycling Weekly this week. 200 members. I race cross, road and MTB along with other members (kingkongsfinger). Know a few on here now as I arrange some MTB midweek madness rounds (dates to be released this week). We train with Horwich CC lads who are now also involved with midweek madness.

Our Sunday run is a roaring sucess and caters for all abilities. There's a seperate social side to the club as a result of this success. Riders dont get dropped and if too many turn up then the ride splits.Loads of info on our web page and facebook.

Ignore the cliche of 'cliqueyness'(is that a word??). Pop along, if you dont like then so be it. Who knows, may find it a blast round the excellent roads we have here. If its too slwo there are some 'quicker' groups we can introduce you to.

Pop along, see what ya think.

Jason

carbon graveyard (Preston!!) - LOL !! Horwich do put on a fantatsic summer crit where the whole town shuts down and there's running races to the pike and youth races.

How do fish do town centre crits?

Lancs RC always seemed a really good bunch, they used to turn out in force for the Preston and Lancaster crits and I'd occasionally see them out on clubruns. Course, that was 5 years ago when I was living up there...

Cheers for the tips and invites chaps. I live in Ramsbottom, so was looking for something with rides starting close to home so I don't have to use the car.

Jason - cheers for the info...I may pop along one Sunday soon.

Cheers Crazy legs - I used to spend all my time at Scale Hall. Safest crit circuit around.

Papa Laz...we also have alternative pick up points on the way as well as we have members near you and in Darwen/Bury.

Check the website for that.

I must admit to being a bit worried about riding with the roadies local to me

but they have turned out to be a thoroughly pleasant bunch.

I ride in my mountain biking kit and even that doesn't rile them

I rode with a few of the guys from Horwich CC for a few weeks last year (or maybe even the year before that - I forget). Seemed like a good bunch and prided themselves on being accomodating for all levels.

I just fell out of the routine of regular rides, due to other commitments. Should probably get back into it.

except for the dog walkers, nearly took down half the paralympic squad in a tandem crit one year because their interpretation of close control was different to everyone else's

Get joined to the LRC!! I'm the club membership secretary and I mainly race MTB, although I do RR, TT and crits. Plenty of different types of people and group rides for all levels of fitness.
