Whilst we've got this epic weather I fancy a pedal/hike up a bloody big hill (not Hellvelyn as I've done that before) in the Lakes before sunrise and then a big descent as the sun is coming up. Any advice for a good hill + associated descent? Looking at something on/around/up to Skiddaw and starting in Keswick?

Probably do something, chill and have some breakfast and then do the Borrowdale Bash later in the day/go and play in Grizedale.

Looking at something on/around/up to Skiddaw

You've given the answer right there...... Ullock Pike

But for completeness

Blencathra ( up westish side  down east)

Grisedale Pike. Up whinlatter black up the ridge and down Hobcarton. Or reverse if you are seriously adept.

Whiteless Pike.

Causey Pike is a bit meh.

Barrow if you've had too many beers the night before

Which descents on Helvelyn have you done? Some of them aren't millions of miles from Keswick. Eg up Sticks West and down Birkside.

PS  ha e you factored in just how early you need to start to be descending at sunrise! It's almost going to be an evening ascent....

Got a proper route outline? Ullock Pike is the one thats kinda been on my radar for a while but only in name (no idea of routes up/down/around).

Park somewhere  on the A591. Cycle up the road through Applethwaite to the carpark by Lattrig. Cycle then push then cycle again up the Bridleway to the top of Skiddaw.

Descend  ( surf)  roughly South West down an obvious steep shake path to Carl Side.

Then head west, then NW then north down the ridge past Ullock.  Then drop to the riad and then back round the A591 to wherever you parked your car.

There's loads of options to make it longer, eg circumnavigate Skiddaw ( and Blencathra) before going up it.
