I've decided I need an bike fit after getting a few niggles after longer rides on my XC bike.  I've had a bike fit for a road bike in the past but want to use somewhere that knows what they're doing with a mountain bike fit.  Does anyone have recommendations for a place not too far from Shrewsbury?  I'd travel a bit (up to 90 mins each way) for somewhere good.

Thanks.

I saw Dan @ UK Bike Fit but he's over in Matlock so probably more like 2 hours each way for you. https://www.ibfi-certification.com/find-a-fitter has some options, although the one in Shrewsbury seems to only have the base level cert so not sure how good they are.

At the limit of your 90 minute radius but very good.

I've had a couple of bike fits on my road bike. Neither worked particularly well for me as both times the fitter more or less got what worked for them and adapted that to me.

Road race shop fit- road race fit. Key leaning my saddle was several cm too high. Fitter told me about riding up an unbelievably ster local climb seater on fixie. He was a successful racer, I struggle up that climb in lowest gear

I don't race, the position was tiring to hold so apart from the saddle hight reverted to previous fit.

Still got sore knees on 120.mile rides.

Specialized retul - shuffled loads of things about, pedal spacers, shoe insole, told me I was a size 45, not 46 shoe. When asked how he would replicate the road fit on a MTB said he would keep the fit the same.

45 shoes- unbelievable painful after.20 miles.

Spacers on pedal axels- horrible.

Saddle position- horrible knee pain.

With both I should have gone back and talked to them about it. They both said fit was a journey. I didn't as both fits had ruined numerous rides for me

So if suggest looking at the fitters bike. If it looks totally alien then they possibly aren't the fitter for you.

I'm at the other end of the county to you and the superb Pearce Cycles are my LBS and only 45 mins from Shrewsbury. I don't know if they do bike fit, but will almost certainly know someone locally who does.

Edit. Just checked, they do bike fit. As an MTB focused shop, they should be a good starting point. They are a family business, race sponsors, a local institution and really nice people to deal with.

had a look at his website and it showed the id match system.  All the pictures showed a set up that looked like it was road bikes so wasn’t sure if it’s applicable for mountain bikes.  I’ll drop them a message though and see what they say
