Setmurphy woods has some fun trails, or head west for all the riding down the west coast, Cold Fell/Dent/Crag Fell down to Ennerdale, Eskdale, Wasdale...

Down the A66 to Keswick.

Borrowdale Bash is worth a look if you've not had a go before.

Riding from the village ,there's some pleasant xc rides to be had from "Laal Browton". Mixture of quiet lanes/sustrans & some Bways.
A lap of Skiddaw via Setmurthy & Binsey perhaps? (Take snacks.a lot.)
Also very easy to get to Whinlatter/Wythop/Loweswater/Ennerdale.
The Lakeland monster gravel ride has a good route around that area.
Don't go to the coast , they may eat you.
But ,If you have to you ,you can go over to Tallentire ,over to Allerby and on to Allonby beach for an ice cream then coastal cycle path to Maryport & beyond ,there's a sustrans route from Siddick that will take you back to Browton. .

You can ride around (not through) this place. Fascinating.

There is a coastal path which as seniorJ says is quite pleasant.

Pop in to 4 play cycles in Cockermouth. The guys there are local and route guru's. They should be able to help.

Is there much to ride at setmurphy? Is it easy enough to find?

Setmurthy Woods has some DH tracks (All natural/local made) and a few pieces of Singletrack.

To get there head out of Cockermouth towards the school, past the school and take the first left. Setmurthy Woods are on the left after about a mile.

As I said , on the way see the guys at 4play cycles. They will give you loads of places to ride local.

Are there any mandatory jumps on the DH lines?
