Only ever ridden the borrowdale bash and it took about 3 hours and 'twas fun in the rocks.

am driving south to a stag this weekend and am looking for a similar length route somewhere between keswick and coniston. also, something that could be potentially less busy with weekend walkers.

i love reading maps btw but am gps ignorant.

a) Torver, Hummer Lane, Broughton Forest, Stephenson Ground, Longmire, Seathwaite, Walna Scar, Spoon Hall = same distance but tougher
can cut R below Broughton Forest to miss out lower part of WS at the loss of the mega downhill to Seathwaite
b) to follow

b) Boon Crag, Tilberthwaite, Atkinson Coppice, Low Hall Garth, Little Langdale Ford (cave biking option here), Hodge Close, High Oxen Fell, Iron Keld (Arnside Intake loop option here), High Cross, Grizedale (NFT option here), then either Lawson Park or Monk Coniston downhills. Possibly shorter unless you include all the options mentioned, but a interesting variety of terrain 🙂

cheers for that, simon. i've seen those cave pics of yours before...very cool.
will look into your suggestions.
received my lakes guide book today and been looking at doing the garburn pass as an out n' back.

if i read this guidebook right: do some people ride counter clockwise via kentmere down to limefitt park and then back the way they came?

I would avoid climbing the Kentmere side, there's a low level route via Kentmere Hall, Mickle Moss, High Borrans and Dubbs Res that gets you back.

i was up on the east side of kentmere valley riding the singletrack over the green quarter a few days ago and it's in great shape at the moment - unusually dry and fast rolling. if you want to do a garburn loop another option is to start at wheelbase in stavely, up the valley a little wy then across to the dubbs climb, up over garburn and across to kentmere valley then over again towards longsleddale, then head south over green quarter. this will bring you on a fast, flowy grass descent to the top of hp woods which is rocky, technical and a great end to the ride. free parking at the yard by wheelbase and a couple of really good cafes - wilf's and an "artisan baker" if you're more of a toff!
