That is a really lovely video!! Might even investigate the music, too - good choice.

For those interested here is the route on Memory Map. Original it was planned as a 2 day effort, but we decided to MTFU and do it in one big day:

Keen to do some more natural stuff at some point, so I've marked this for future info. Is the Lhairig Ghru best ridden East to West? From my experience walking round there, could be a bit rough for riding in places.

Thats a great video! What was the total distance in the end?

I'd decided against a couple of Lairig Ghru expeditions having been warned about various unrideable sections, I think that video has persuaded me to give it a shot regardless.

Hardcore!

You know the score! That is a helluva route for a day ride / walk / cursing carry. Still, no matter how bad the carry, it probably pales compared to the despair that is Strath Nethy.....Euch! Had I expected it to be so bad, it would have been fine...but I didn't...so it wasn't! ๐Ÿ˜†

How far did you walk your bikes for? I have ridden / walked most of that loop and I take my hat off to you

There is probably 10km of carrying/pushing in the Lairig Ghru between Linn of Dee and Rothiemurchus and then another 5 or 6km to get back through the mud from the end of Glen Feshie to Linn of Dee.

Ton, I like the sound of that route as well! Although I wonder how long a return via the Lairig an Laoigh would be...

I think I might have done one or two hike-a-bikes of those sort of distances, at least the singlespeed would be easier to carry!

Taking a tandem with camping kit for a walk down the geldie burn nearly killed me. Then when it dropped below freezing overnight and my shoes froze.....................

...............then the next day some glorious singletrack thru beautiful forested glens on a sunny day

13thfloormonk:

SS was actually really good for this route, most of the steep ups are too rocky to ride anyway! Also most of the descents are very rocky, almost trials like, so the instant power of the SS was great for that.

If I did it again I think I'd probably go for 32:18 or similar rather than 32:15 though!

13th Floor Monk

Lairig an Laoigh would be a far better option. Considerably less carrying and what there is is over pretty quicky. It's techy riding but all the better for it. There will be a route guide in a future issue that features the bit you are referring to as part of a Cairngorm loop.

I've penciled the Glen Feshie and Lairig an Laogh in as a route for the Spring as a day ride. ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers
