how far down does the seat post tubing on the frame go?

as in, say you had a really long seatpost how far would you be able to push it in? does the tubing stay the same diameter all the way to the bb housing?

cheers

erm. yes I *think* it does, but I'd have to dig it out of the basement to check.

^although good point what Baxter asks. Mines a '03 15" DeeLux if that's any help.

I'm confused; the seatpost is stuck at the moment but you're not sure how far down? I've never got mine stuck in my frame and have the habit of pushing it right down when descending (but maybe you have a superlong post?)

Sheldon brown has a very long and comprehensive article on removing stuck seatposts from frames

yep its stuck. but thats due to the previous owner's neglect and corrosion.
I am just wondering how much post is potentially in the frame still

It will not go all the way down as there is a bend in the tubing before the bottom bracket. I have about 4-5inches of seat tube showing when pushed all the way down. Kona seat post, 15.5 stinky.

ianv; what year is your frame?

I know they updated the frame around 2005/6 and am fairly certain that the seattube on my 03 stinky is straight down to the BB (but I'll check when I get home coz it's been in the basement for 6 months and I can't remember tbh.....

actually, just googled 2004 Stinky deelux and pretty sure it has a straight seat tube.

From this I assume you are thinking about buying this bike but haven't seen it yet?

Put a straight edge up against the post.
It sounds like it's bent.
