Having had a quick look why would anyone want two poorly specced (and slightly ugly) bikes for their money?

One for yourself and one for a partner, mate, child?

Because they will be available individually with 50% off later? Lots of similar/ better offers elsewhere?

I've test ridden different Process's on two 'bike testing' days at Comrie. This was back to back with Saracen, Orange, Merida, Starling etc, and on Comrie lower red and blue.

They just felt less capable, both had cheap tyres and flexible wheels. Both had obvious cost saving parts here and there. Both just didn't have a 'oooh, nice' look to them - they seem all in on 'melted tube' shapes...

But I love some of Kona's steel adventure bikes and the paint jobs they give them.

Buy two,one sell one have a bike for about 60% of rrp?

Winstanley's have Konas discounted to that kind of level anyway. Process 134 cr at 37% off.

For the hassle of trying to move a bike in this market, I'd rather take a (potentially) smaller guaranteed discount.

Assuming I wanted a Kona. Which I don't. Unless someone is selling a 1991 explosif 🙂

Aside from the merits of the bikes themselves this is a ridiculous offer. Why would you want two Processes? That ridiculous. Sell them for 50% off and you'd be on a winner.

Why would you want two Processes?

153 for winch and plummeting/uplift duties, 134 for general trail riding?

If you're in the position of needing/wanting two bouncers and Kona tick the boxes then it would at least be worth doing the man maths to figure out if buying both bikes at whatever discounts you can find elsewhere Vs paying top whack for one but getting a second chucked in is actually cheaper. but you're also going to need to stump up the money in full, right before Christmas.

This deal only really suits a very small niche of potential customers with good cash flow and quite a specific N+2 requirement.

They figure that 2 boxes out of the warehouse per transaction will make a dent in their vast over-stock sooner.
Judging from reactions above, they may be mistaken.
Tough for brands and retailers when a buy one get one free offer on bicycles isn’t a good enough offer to the buying public. Desperate times for some brands.

I suppose it's kind of different to supermarket BOGOF deals (which do encourage waste and over consumption) they just rely on people seeing a bulk purchase of food or household goods that they will eventually use as an overall beneficial deal.

The thing is when Tesco's crank out the BOGOFs you're only maybe ~80p worse off that week, but did score a surplus of Hula hoops or Domestos which you will make use of...

To Lay out say £3.5k and end up with an entire spare bike is a whole order of magnitude different...

The underlying issue is the oft referred to "state of the bike industry" businesses now overstocked, with debts to service and poor cashflow due to dropping sales, following a bumper period... At the same time this was forecast by some.

Presumably they expect people to club together to get two bargain bikes, be that family members or riding mates. It’s a crazy deal if you ask me. Like all these things, only really of interest to people considering a Kona anyway. People knocking the deal aren’t interested in a Kona whatever the price it seems, will be interesting to see how it goes down with people who are after one.

Love my Process 134 bought from Tredz with a healthy discount a couple of years ago. Can’t imagine the circumstances where I’d want two for the price of one when there are so many straight discounts about on equivalent bikes. And look at the specs, Kona RRPs have been staggeringly poor value for a while.

im a big kona fan and id happily have that process x in pink!

sadly even selling another process for 50% I still can't afford it

i think it a says a lot about the bike industry that theyre so keen to clear stock and at such a discount

with this & the recent buyout & layoffs at kona there's obviously some problem there

I have a 2016 full sus Kona and I do like it, from when their geometry was ahead of a lot of mainstream brands. It's a company I'd like to see do well.

But mine was bought at the time with a major price discount. I am constantly baffled by their prices and spec in the UK, just so uncompetitive even before they took a (bold, but ugly) approach to the look of the full sus bikes. I'm not sure how it is supposed to work, so I just concluded they aren't fussed about the UK as a place to sell many bikes. This current offer just further adds to my confusion about their approach.

Being a former owner of a splatty Explosif BITD I have a soft spot for Kona but I'd have thought they'd have cleared the decks sooner at 50% off one rather than BOGOF. Or maybe have offered a Process and Gravel bike combo...
