After reading lots about airotors I stumbled upon the razors which look to have more going on in the brake track but less weight.
The idea of bigger rotors with less weight is quite appealing, does the reduced material=reduced stoppage due to a lack of friction?
Who's tried them (either), what do you think?
If I take the plunge I'll be sure to make sure they're the right way round ๐
I've been running the airotors for a couple of years on my XC race bikes, with 160mm rotors front and rear. Coupled with good brakes they are awesome. VERY light and look great. But yeh, they may have slightly reduced stopping power due to the lack of material but they are still extremely powerful.
I'd go for em for sure, found no reason to change to anything else, till someone makes some lighter ones!
I use both in 160. id buy them both again but the KCNC are better /lighter and less pulseing.
for reference i've used them with Formula R1's,Formula RX's and Magura Marta SL's.
Ok, sounds good. I've got SLX brakes and 160mm RT75 rotors, on steeper stuff I'm finding I take a little longer to stop than I'd like. I was thinking about 180 at both ends, maybe 203 and 180 would be better?
The fettling never bloody ends!
Ashima's, light and enough power - for me
how long till the geek fight about braking force and surface area... ๐
do weight weenies care if their brakes work??
reduced contact area will not reduce the braking power.
Not going to go into the physics of it. Just have to trust me on this one....it's Xmas ๐
I use Razors, 160/140. Very slightly less power than the Avid G3s I use on my normal wheels, don't really care why, would use the Razors again.
Never mind the powah, make sure you mount them the right way round?
True! That'd put me off the Ashimas! There's a new rotor coming out from them which lighter than the Razor IIRC, was on BikeRumor.
