Replacing old and very cheap Argos strap-on with a new bike rack.

Thule RideOn 9502 Towbar style, came with lights board. I'm impressed how stable it is, and not too expensive at £82.20 delivered. I've ordered a new number plate off http://www.lovelyplates.co.uk/ with a Scottish flag on for £9 too. I got the carrier here, came next day even between Chrimbo + New Year: http://www.skidrive.co.uk/cycle/product_detail.php?partno=950200 .

Seems great, even has a tool-free tilt with bikes on for boot access.

In fact, I reckon I can get both the Argos special and this one on at the same time for multi-bike epics! I'll try that tomorrow...

Cheers, al.

Just make sure you wash down your brake calipers when you get home in this salt covered road weather

Couple of my mates use these and they are very happy with theirs. Although one (fitted to a focus) beeps rather loudly when you use the indicators. ??

Cheers, al.

The beeping is supposed to come from the vehicle, something to do with letting you know the bulb in the light board is working (told by an ex commercial driver and made sense).

edit-oh, and I have the 3 bike one for the camper van, top bit of kit.

Yeah Im loving my 3 bike one, make sure your careful with the straps as I left mine on the rack and went on a ride only to find that some little monkey had taken them on my return... 😈
To get the 'Thule' replacements they're something like £10 for two!! I ended up getting cheap luggage straps..

If you have a car that doesn't beep when something is connected to the light board it's illegal and should fail an MOT. It's the car that does it not the rack/lights. Should happen on indication to remind you there's a trailer behind you.

and use the strap even without a bike onboard, otherwise you'll lose the strap or the wheel mount or both...

That's correct. It's to let you know the indicators are working, and is fitted with the tow bar electrics. It's been compusory to have one for a very long time now. If you don't have one or an extra light on the dash, it's not been fitted properly.

Vehicle lighting regs 1998

Tell-tale-

(a) One or more indicators on each side of a vehicle to which indicators are fitted shall be so designed and fitted that the driver when in his seat can readily be aware when it is in operation; or

(b) The vehicle shall be equipped with an operational tell-tale for front and rear indicators (including any rear indicator on the rearmost of any trailers drawn by the vehicle).
