If I keep existing 8 speed chainrings [if there is such a thing] but swop the 8 speed cassette for a 9 speed and use a 9 speed chain and shifters, am I likely to come across any problems?
Sheldon Brown website seems to say that although companies such as Shimano say you should change the chainrings as well, this isn't actually required. Just thought I'd check with the STW collective.

The chainrings will be fine. You are changing the RH shifter though?

Changing both shifters actually, so yes.

Yep, no problems with "8 speed" rings on a 9 speed setup (ime)
