[#8277461]

Out on this mornings ride which unfortunately contains a few road miles, when a driving instructor squeezes by me on a blind bend. So i do what i think is the right thing and put a pm on his Facebook page rather than call him out in public. This was his response: "If you had any thoughts for drivers you would have peddled harder or would your skinny legs not do it. I have to teach my pupils to make progress are you a computer pusher ? Cos you make our life hell just Bob on bye" What a charmer!

There is no hope.

I've completely stopped fighting my corner whenever conversation turns to cyclists on the road.

Not worth my breath, **** em

Report to Driving Standards Authority (or whoever it is that regulates instructors)?

I think that making this thread top of Google searches for him is a good start.

Bretts Driving Tuition - hates cyclists.

That's Bretts Driving Tuition of Flitwick.

You're assuming he's an Approved Driving Instructor

He must have taken it down then there's no message on his Facebook page

I'd have responded that driving instructors holding up traffic make other road users life hell.

Should have let the OP decide whether to name the bloke on here.

On that link, the Skoda has a Green ADI badge so he is a Approved Driving Instructor.

If you want to take it further, ring DVSA Fraud & Integrity on 0191 201 8120

Andy Rice is in charge. They mainly deal with illegal instruction but they will be very interested in this one......

I would not want that bloke teaching others to drive. He needs reporting. Do it now.

Further reading on that link and he has been an ADI a long time. Some people are saying they passed with him 12 years ago.

He really, really should behave better than that.

That's a pretty nasty and potentially dangerous view from someone with a lot of influence over new drivers. If he doesn't apologise and agree to reconsider that opinion, I'd be complaining about him to his professional body. There's far too many ass hats driving on the road with a shitty attitude towards cyclists - we could do without this twonk creating more.

Report him. Partly for his lack of ability to teach pupils how to overtake a cyclist but also because 'making progress' means making safe progress, not risking a head-on collision...

Isn't this idiot.. A driving instructor who has a blog and some interesting cyclist hating opinions?

Driving instructor blog

This was a thread I started a bit ago and has a nasty mail exchange via his blog.

Go to fb page, visitor posts and click on 'like' - 8 so far but I'm sure STW can do much better than that.
I'm with everyone else about reporting him - and involve local media; local radio breakfast show should be good for 5 minutes worth.

I read through quite a bit of that blog with an open mind, and he actually talks a lot of sense apart from where cyclists are concerned where he appears to have a total mental block to sensible reasoning.

Whilst the guy sounds like he needs reminding about the rules of the road and duties when teaching by his profession body, I'm not sure if I ran Singletrack Towers I'd want the internet witch hunt run from my forum.

There is a delicious irony in a driving instructor having a go at a slower and more vulnerable road user 🙄

I've had similar too!

My experience a while back...

Take heart from the hope that loads of young people are riding bikes before learning to drive so hopefully one of his pupils will call him out.

I'm struggling to believe that the blog is the same person... its fairly well articulated, if more than a little biased against the cyclist.

I had a driving instructor pretty much drive into the side of me while I was on a motorbike, in walking speed traffic. I sounded my horn and shuffled out the way next to the curb. She totally blanked me so I chucked her an email and got this response.

I am absolutely mortified that I missed you. I did not see you at all. As for driving aggressively that was not my intention. I apologise profusely for cutting you up. I did hear a horn and even then I didn't see you as you must have been in my blind spot. I was conscious that something may have happened and I kept my eye on you all the way into town.

There is no excuse, I simply didn't see you, I obviously didn't look enough. I can assure you that this has never happened before and, having just returned from 2 weeks off owing to illness, I seriously need to think as to whether I'm fit to drive following this incident.

Again, please accept my utmost apologies, I am embarrassed in the extreme.

Very weird, I'm 6'6" and I was riding a bike green supermoto bike. I was directly in front of her as she moved forwards. Much better response though, I actually apologized for having a rant at her, hehe.

Milky, I get the opposite where I get Learners who hate Cyclists and I have to try to change their opinion.

A while ago, I had a " lady " on an assessment lesson after having lessons with someone else then moving to our area. Obviously the idea is to be as quiet as possible and see how she drove.

Coming upto a cyclist, who was riding correctly in secondary position, this " lady " said look at this #*€$$€# in the middle of the road 😯 I just said just give him plenty room then carry on.

At the time, I had my Bikeability manual in the car so I pulled her over and explained primary and secondary. She wasn't having it and flatly refused to believe the cyclist should be anywhere else but the gutter. She didn't have many lessons as she moved away again.

Got a young lad who hates cyclists, it's got to be fed down from the parents 🙁

I know it's all money and that, but i'd refuse to teach a person with those prejudices unless they'd shown some sort of acceptance to change/learn.

Someone who is vocal about how much they "hate" a particular group of road users simply doesn't have the temperament to be in charge of a 1/2 ton moving lump of metal.

I understand completely what you are saying and it the time I wanted to tell her to get out my car, but if they are going to want to learn they are going to learn be it with me or someone else.

God knows what they would say about you if you told them to pee off. They would probably just find someone like the OP is going on about.

That young lad I have at the moment is a pain with his attitude but his driving is rubbish and he has failed his theory twice so hopefully he will give up before he moves away to uni.

Yeah, fair enough. I suppose you can at least try to teach them properly rather than Bretts Driving Tuition instilling more hatred.

Contacted the DVSA, so waiting to hear back from them and reported him to Bed's police. They won't do anything but as the person on the phone said, it's now on record for the next time he does it.
