I tried that a few months ago with a 240s rear hub. Today I finally managed to get the parts needed to deal with it. Bearings- £8:00, needed to be replaced anyway. Labyrinth seal- £5:00, end caps £19:00/ pair. All damaged by to much copper mallet action.

Go for it I say. Surely you can beat £24:00 needlessly spent due to drunken maintenance?

You might want to get a bit more alcohol in. Maybe a couple of cheeky after hours pints in the local, some carry outs for home then get at those forks. What's the worst that can happen?

Pah- man up. Hit it. Hard.

Take Shane McGowan, Oli Reed, Alex Higgins, some of their best work is realised when they're pissed! 😀

Liking it aP, liking it...

What's the worst that can happen?

I could end up in A+E. And/Or be Sectioned. 😯

Might well be academic anyway; I can't remember where I've put the bloody things.

Come to think of it, where'd I put the rest of the bike?

Ring an ex (always bad to drunken dial) and then tell us in the morning how much you regret it and a brief transcript of the call.

😉 So Elfin has had a few. He really loves his bike, his soulmate, his raison d'aitre...

It's getting late but he wants to give some love, some care.

I've found the frame and one of the wheels. Still don't know where I put the forks. Now I can't remember where the bloody hell I put the suspension oil I bought only this afternoon.

(Delves into computer files to find Poddy's RockShox service guide..)

Drink more beer first, it's better to not remember what you've done when you wake up tomorrow
Then buy new forks tomorrow evening and learn a valuable lesson about mixing copious amounts of alcohol and bike fettling
not that I speak from experience, not me! Never.....

I can't find Poddy's guide. 🙁

I'm not doing it without Poddy's guide.

I've lost interest now anyway. Can't find the fork so that's that. It'll have to wait now.

sound like you know elfin fairly well nutt!

Poddys how-to is ace. and very straightforward.

It'd be great if this thread was a success though. cos everyone that puts up a fork service query on here will immediately be directed here (by me), to show that any late nite boozer can do it. I'm all for taking out the mystical technical mechanical bolx of bikes.

Unscrew that, hit that, move that, put that in there. stick it back together. and bed!
