Standard bmx chain does the job best IMHO.

I use the same chain as halbee with my alfine. Totally maintenance free and cheap ๐Ÿ˜€

I also use a KMC BMX / 3 speed hub with my Rohloff as you don't need any sideways movement. Having said that I got 3 years out of a cheap SRAM chain and only changed it because I was doing an oil change and decided to change the sprocket at the same time. I'd assumed that I would lose oil in changing the sprocket and didn't want to end up having to do another one before it was due if my chain gave out. As it was I lost very little of the old oil in changing the sprocket. I think my answer then to your actual question is no, anything will do but a BMX chain will hopefully last longer.
