Just sitting looking at my new bike, shop fresh an all, and its just dawned on me the I have mentaly changed every thing that on the poor thing apart from the frame and shock. All was good when i parted with the cash!
I think i will just ride it.

I got over the 'Shiny Thing Make Better' trap a few years ago, and now just buy stuff when existing stuff breaks, and don't worry so much about the machine. Concentrate more on riding the flipping thing.

Nothing progresses if you're satisfied. Suppose you just have to be careful what you're not satisfied with.

well i'm about to p/x my 10 anthem x2 for a charge duster mid bike. the anthem is probably the best bike that i have ever owned/ridden,but being crap/not rich am changing (partly as it will be cheaper to service, partly as it will be easier to look after i.e riding in winter on the ridgeway/marlbrough downs e.t.c the chalky ground can get very gloopy) but mainly,i just fancy going back to a great steel ht (after owning a lovely 1992 marin eldridge grade fully rigid race machine/god how i loved that bike ๐Ÿ˜€ the charge has the same tubing/similar frame design as the marin (and had had glowing reviews/wherever i have read a review of one of their bikes ๐Ÿ˜€

Nothing like poverty to help you through the shiney thing syndrome, works for me

I buy stuff only when needed or when I fancy trying something a bit different - so that's mostly frames.

Its consumerism isn't it. Me I am pretty happy with my stuff and no great desire to upgrade for the sake of it

I often buy stuff when I'm feeling a bit miserable and need to cheer myself up - I can convince myself that it will make things easier/better/more enjoyable. The 'new stuff' buzz doesn't tend to last that long though. Pathetic I know. ๐Ÿ˜•

Still I do ****ing love my bike as it is now - no more upgrades!!

I've had the same frame for 7 years, wheels are the same age or even older - but everything else has been changed as it's worn out. I like the familiar handling of my bike and feel it suits my riding. Ridden plenty of newer, posher bikes, but there's nothing that makes me want it. Cheap stuff is good -possesions just weigh you down - so i like to keep things minimal. (says the man with 7 bikes! nuthin expensive though!) Cycling is the same as every other hobby/pastime; eventually you need to look past the equipment to focus on the real love.

I am down to 1 bike atm, fairly Skintos but able to ride! Despite being happy I am constantly getting sweaty over new kit, safe in the knowledge that I will never own it and be whore to the classifieds and sale trawling the web for the foreseeable future. This adds a certain tension to things which turns out to be a bit exciting at times. I get a euphoric feeling from a new mech, god knows how I would cope walking into a shop and blowing 4k on a dream build.
