After getting an Orange Crush (lovely!), I've now got to reduce my bike collection and I have a Kona hardtail built from vaious bits to sell. Is it generally best to split it, or sell as a single bike.
I'm in two minds that some people might want the odd thing such as a fork, frame etc for builds...
Alternatively I try and keep it as a "pub" bike and just sell the forks and risers - putting on the flat bars and good old bar ends.
If all the bits are in good nic eventually you will flog them all and you will probably get more money for them than selling as a complete bike. If you want less hassle, less trips to post the stuff etc, then sell as a complete bike - or keep it as a pub bike.
Tot up what you think you would get for each item, is that more than you think you'd pay for the whole bike?
I think it's going to be path of last resistance and sell it as one.
That makes a nice job of getting the bike ready for selling this weekend
I'm always in this dilemma selling our old guide bikes.
Bit by bit the bikes are worth much more split, but, what if I cant sell the frame, or a wheelset then I end up getting stuck with a few parts and end up with less than I would've go selling the bike as a whole.
Plush it might take a week to sell a whole bike, but months to sell all the parts.. cash now with less hassle tends to get my vote 🙂
Split-I got far more than selling my old bike complete.
I've always found I've got more for parting out bikes than the price I originally offered the complete bike for.
A guy I know used to buy whole bikes on Fleabay, strip them & flog the bits. He always made a profit. Mebbe only £75-100 but never lost out.
