put thinner tyres on my mountain bike ?
as i havent ridden for 6-7 weeks now due to my wierd head pains...im soo missing my MTB .... would possibly like to go on the road and canal for a while, and see how i can tolerate it, ......dont really want to get onto the rugged terrain ...my head isnt ready for that yet ๐
suggest tyres please :....
my doctor suggested the road cycling for a while to keep my fitness up, but i dont have a road bike......
Aye - anything down to around 1.5" should be OK. If you are only going to be on roads and stuff then something with minimal tread will be better.
You might need thinner tubes too.
maybe some 1.5 tyres
something like

OR
panaracer mach ss, which are really good road, they are a 1.95
I stuck some of these on my HT for road duties.

They PITA to get on the rims though (well, they were on my XT wheels anyway).
Once on they make a massive difference. And they came with tubes too (not sure if they still do)
crag : i notice the 'on one tyres' are 1.3 but the other recomendations are 1.5 whats the difference (i dont know much about these road tyres (sorry) ๐
i have these on my MTB commuter for canal tow paths and although heavier than normal tyres are reasonably fast and puncture proof.
i have the 1.5" wide tyres on my mavic 819 rims.
Not a lot of difference between 1.3 and 1.5.
Given you're not well, I guess you won't be thrashing along, so 1.5s will be fine. Needn't be expensive, so just head down to your LBS and see what they have.
Hope you feel better soon.
(Oh,and I've used the conti sport contacts before - they are real sods to get on and off all sorts of rims, so suggest you don't go for those..!)
If you're just going to see how you get on then use what you've got on there now and go explore. Have fun!
I'd just ride what you have, at least at first - what if you can't tolerate it or better option, you find it fine & get back to off-road really soon
little tyres may be faster on the road but you're not racing, just getting back into it, aren't you ?
keeping fit is about the exercise you do, not how fast you end up going on a "different" bike
id rather start off on the road really as the rugged terrain in my area is RUGGED !
im a little scared it would mash my head up even more... im still having moderate pains in the head (just started new tablets), so if i needed to keep some sort of fitness up i would rather ride on the road for now.... not going bat out of hell and seeing if i can tolerate that (i just donbt fancy it yet)...my scan results not come through yet so just wana take it easier for now.. ๐
i,ll pop down to LBS see what they can do for me tyre wise as i dont wana spent a fortune on them....
Oh, I'm all for you starting on the road but your current tyres will work just fine on there too
(hope it goes well, whatever tyres you use)
yeah but thick tread mtb tyres are very hard work on the road all the time arent they... not that i want to go super fast but they are somewhat 'Draggy' if only using on the road
Not sure i would ride on road if my head wasnt 100%,need full concentration and reaction times.
They don't have to be skinny tyres - try Schwalbe Big Apples.
