I presume I need an adapter to fit a Shimano IS caliper onto a Post mount fork (160mm disk) - but I can't find one one anywhere, other than a 170mm adapater, what am I missing?

dunno, but I think you might struggle. The standard post-mount calipers fit 160mm without an adaptor, straight onto the fork mounts. May find ANY adaptor spaces your IS one out beyond 160mm.

???

IS caliper to PM fork always means an increase in disk size from the IS caliper size

Although I may have imagined it, I seem to remember someone posting a link to an ebay seller with what your looking for a few months ago.

They are about, you'll probably have to trawl eBay for one though. I use one on my singlespeed, but that came with the fork I bought off here...

Occasionally they also turn up in the classifieds, so keep looking, and good luck.

I don't think they exist. If a post mount caliper has to have a chunk of metal added to turn it to post mount I can't see how adding more metal to an IS caliper can allow the use of a 160mm rotor. I would be happy to be proved wrong though.

Thanks guys........ you're right of course, there would pretty much have to be an increase in the distance of the caliper from the fork. 😳
Easy answer is swop to a 180 disk!
Classified here I come 🙂
