I'm riding the Paris to London route next month on the Avenue Verte and since my mtb isn't really suited to long distance road riding (hardtail, downhill tyres, long travel forks and double and bash), I'm planning on taking my road bike (full carbon, 23mm slicks).

It would seem that most of the route is tarmac or hardpack trail designed for cycles, but I'd appreciate it if someone had first hand experience of the trail and could advise if a road bike would be OK for this ride. Ta in advance.

Fine for a road bike; I used it at Easter as the first leg of a tour to fontainebleau on a cross-bike plus full panniers, and it was no problem at all. Most tricky part was riding the ramp off the ferry!

Thanks for the definite answer - I was half expecting the usual "sitting on the fence" type of advice; "it depends on x, y and z"... but thankfully not the case.

So thanks for helping me to make my mind up.
