Bikes are naturally underweight, so they often look to add weight anyway.

Hmm, go pros on mtb stuff make the trails look flat, reduces the size of drops and just generally degnarifies everything. If it make the rad look slightly lame it's not going to do much for road cycling is it?

Track racing on ice does sound a goer tho ๐Ÿ™‚

I can't see how it'd help really, might make the descents a bit more interesting, but mostly it'll be looking at the guy in fronts back and bum. Which I suspect is for a more 'specialist' audience.

In terms of rider data they already have some on show anyway, so that's not much of a change.

Thought BC banned that sort of stuff on safety grounds, same as mudguards?

Different rules might apply in a bid to attract TV air time.

They are actually still banned in any of their events when mounted anywhere other than on your helmet!

... and I have been told that even though they are mounted to your helmet, any form of pole mount that films your face or 360 rotation is banned too.

not at all, in fact i quite enjoyed it from the comfort of the sofa.
knowing what a camera does to trails tho, i suspect that i wouldnt even be comfortable on the start line sat on a bike.

Could be a safety enhancement for the Grand tours, reduce the likelihood of M/C camera crews getting in the way...

From a Team's point of view there could be incentives, agreeing to carry a camera/broadcast package on your team bikes could contribute to the bikes 6.8kg min-weight, and then there's the question of who owns the broadcast rights from on board cameras? A nice little revenue stream for those teams that carry a camera...

Helmet cams have been banned from DH race and Qualifying runs for some time, but not practice hence there's plenty of "riders eye" footage of WC courses being ridden, if you're into the sport its quite good viewing, but only in short bursts, an hour of helmet cam footage would induce serious motion sickness, so long as it's used sparingly I can see it adding to the coverage.

I'd rather watch actual racing than another Road-Warriors "Best bits" compilation where they berates RLJers and Transit drivers, but unfortunately that seems to be the primary use of such technology at present...

the helmet cam footage was a nice addition and yeah the really big stuff still looks big but the long and side shots showed how mental it really was.

Helmet cams have been banned from DH race... for some time

I thought this, but Manon Carpenter was wearing one in Cairns... have they backtracked?

This is UCI, British Cycling banned cameras.

The rule has been in for years that only essential equipment for racing is allowed. The have just clarified it for cameras.

I thought this, but Manon Carpenter was wearing one in Cairns... have they backtracked?

Was it a British Cycling Event?

In terms of road riding it would be interesting to see a finish from Cavandish's POV some of the sprints would make for good TV after the event though some riders might not appreciate it if they get demoted for not playing fair.

From Twitter: Good news, @BrianCooksonUCI allowed teams to race with camera's mounted on the bikes! So @teambelkin will do @AmgenTourofCali, stay tuned!

Shame that British Cycling isn't appearing to be as flexible as the UCI.
