Heading up to the valley of dreams later this week. I've heard good things about Yair, so was planning a morning there. Looking at the map it looks an easy ride along the SUW from the top of Inners and drop into Yair that way. I imagine its pretty obvious on the ground, being a major hiking route - but what sort of condition is it likely to be in at the mo? Not really interested in an axle deep, bike destroying, boggy grind there and back.

Thanks!

Yeah fine ride although longer than it maybe looks on a map. Done on a gravel bike so no issues on a mtb. Proper well constructed path most of the way.

It's a pretty obvious track and quite good fun, Inners to Yair is better than Yair to Inners. Brings you out at the Brethren so a choice of more techy routes down from there.
I think the KOM is something like 25mins from Minch summit to Brethren so not too far, 30mins for me if I really go for it, 40-45 at 'looking at the scenery and chatting' pace

Conditions are perfect at the moment, nicely dry and you have picked a lovely route. Nice pootle back along road at the end if you don't fancy the climb back up.

I would only mention that in my experience, a day at Yair always seems to involve a LOT of climbing. Great trails though.

There were a couple of muddy patches on Saturday but it's a hard based track so easy enough to ride.
Yair is shite though I'd not bother. 😉

There are a couple of ways back too:
- return via the full Brethren to Inners track (not recommended if windy, as it's normally a Westerly)
- drop down into the Yarrow Valley, ride through the edge of Bowhill and then back over the Minch Moor Road to the SUW
- the quiet single-track Tweed Valley road as Frank mentioned
- the start of the single-track road and then up into Elibank to Glenbenna (and then either climb to SUW for an Inners descent, road or cyclepath to Inners)

There are lots of trails at Yair and it'd be hard to recommend a route through them without knowing your fitness/skill level TBH.

Great path, you could do a loop although a bit climby.

Total control racing, turn right for double diamond, climb for two hoes, sweaty bum, and off the saddle, climb to three brethren then back to Inners.

Except today, we've an Easterly!

Coat-tailing this a bit... Does anyone have an opinion on the SUW as the basis of a long distance ride? I'm looking at planning something as a multiday ride and having a proper path to follow but with the opportunity for planning some fun diversions (e.g. down through yair) is just the sort of thing really.

SUW if fine but not techie riding and lots of stiles and gates around this area.

The techie I'm less worried about really, plenty of opportunities to deviate and add that in, its more the ability to make progress (and give a general direction) really, so the "lots of stiles and gates" is more of an issue, though less than "miles impassable bog/goap" would be
