Who isn't at all interested in mountain biking but is beginning to see the point of green / blue graded trails ... what would one buy?
Thinking about a shorter travel full sus ... Trek Powerfly but cheaper? Canyon or the like? Likely to be bought through a cycle to work scheme.
Recommendations?
I bought the Mrs a cube hardtail and she love it, decent motor and spec with no real issues of which to mention.
One that fits you as well..
Started looking at the Specialised hardtail, but through a bit of rep favours, mates rates and such, it escalated into a Levo FSR after the shorter travel FS wasn't available. Its very nice, its comfy to ride and has good brakes. More bike than she needs currently, but nothing off putting about it.
I bought my wife a medium Focus Jam2 6.8 Nine.
She’s about 5’7” and it’s a good fit. Focus bikes seem quite short.
The bike is awesome and it means she actually quite enjoys coming out with me occasionally

that focus is alot of bike for 'occasional' riding...
ebikes are missing a ticket i think - shorter travel lighter ones are needed. the cube ones looked ok unltill you look at the frame classifications - some shorter travel cube ebike frames you arnt allowed to brake hard enough to lift the back wheel - madness! (look at the frame classification details ...)
Think about whether a removable battery is an issue for you. For security and ease of charging reasons.
What about a full sus hybrid.
Im wanting a Focus Jam 6.9, but may end up with a Scott axis evo.
This way she can carry all the supplies, while you forge the way ahead 😉
Forgot to say, Focus do 2 versions. One with a Bosch motor and 625 battery, or one with a Shimano motor and 385 battery which is a bit lighter. You can piggyback another battery on for longer rides.
My wife has a canyon Strive on. Last years model. It’s been brilliant loads of travel the weight doesn’t matter, she can keep up with me now and ride all sorts of lakes terrain.
Don’t buy a hardtail. The weight of the bike means they just plough through and hit everything and thus they’re not comfortable off road. My wife tried one and hated it. They’re ok on road tho.

The lightest one you can possibly afford.
My wife has one, and she loves it, but going on holiday anywhere with it, it's the thing I dread the most.
No way will it go on the roof.
It will go on the towbar-mounted bike carrier, but I have to use every strap I own to get to the point where I stop worrying about it breaking free mid-journey.
It will also go inside the car, but only after removing both wheels, and even then it weighs so much it's a complete pain.
A few weeks ago I spent a few days with my right arm not quite working properly after lifting it too enthusiastically.
Yeah sorry. It’s a great bike. I’ve been out on it a few times even though it’s a bit small. You can ride anything. It’s great we can ride anywhere together now. It will do at least 30 miles off road and more on road on one charge which is enough for me being unassisted. She likes the fact that she always can put it in boost if she’s knackered.
Re weight on the car. I use a rockbros two bike sucker rack and without the battery it’s within weight. Not fallen off yet!!
Unless you think she's going to progress to needing something with suspension have a look at the Islabike Jimi. My mum's got one and loves it. Because it's relatively light she rarely needs more than minimal boost. Easy to lift onto the bike rack too.
