I'd have assumed yes but reading the wording they seem to say no compensation for cracks in use (excluded, for the avoidance of doubt)
- page 11, wordsearch "cracking" brings you to the relevant clause:
"Additional exclusions for equipment:
Damage to mountain bikes, canoes and kayaks when in use including cracking, scratching or denting."
I find that surprising. What else is one insuring against, when one calls a specialist insurer like this? M&S will cover medical care for a fraction of the cost.
So just use a generic insurer? What added value to these specialists have?
Filling in all the gaps left by M&S's exclusion clauses- the S&R, helicopter off the mountain, Swiss hospital, repatriation etc when you've overdone it while participating in a sport excluded by your normal cover. 🙂
er its holiday/ medical insurance. not broke your bike insurance.
You'll also find that that the 'single item' cover is quite low
EDIT: £350 less the excess
Thanks all.
Well, in that case I'm turning my cover for equipment/belongings down to the minimum. The only thing I could foreseeably bust on this trip is my bike (or my person).
as others have said its to cover the thousands of pounds your typical alpine crash will incur in medical bills (and I speak from personal experience). I didnt need an airlift but I had the pompiers get me off the mountain, xrays in morzine, ambulance to clinic on thonon (had pay for this on CC and claim back), surgery including anaethestist, 3 days in clinic, ambulance to airport (right up to the plane), entire row of seats on different flight to that booked, and an executive taxi home.
Posted before but my 2 holiday pics from 2009 alps trip....
a cracked front triangle will be the least of your worries....
No chance.
Most likely because a cracked frame is normally down to stress that occured long before and up until the actual impact that starts to crack it. I'd be amazed if an insurance company covered this, at least at normal cover rates.
Try the BMC for good general alpine trip cover.
My house insurance covers my bike (specifically named item with extra annual premium), whereas snowcard covers my body.
