Idly thinking about a longer dropper post

I've used Rockshox reverbs for years with no real complaints. I've got a 180mm post that's about 6 years old on my main bike, but I've got lots of clearance to fit a longer dropper.

My question is ... what to go for if I do take the plunge? I'm Bike Yoke curious as I like the idea of everything being easy to service.

My normal recommendation to pretty much anyone else would be a one up post as they are cheap, but very good.

Any thought or recommendations?

I have a Bike Yoke, and can confirm that they are as easy to live with as everyone says they are. They're both dead simple to break down and clean while at the same time, not really needing much in the way of looking after in the first place.

Bike Yoke appear to be tbe money no object option but I have to say my One-Up has been great so far.

Go for the longest you can. That'll probably mean a OneUp. I'm on a 240mm OneUp post and it's brilliant.

I'm sure I'm not as tall as tallpaul, so my 210mm OneUp is doing me just fine.

If I had more space to play with I'd be cool with a Brand X 200mm post (but the collars take up more room).

Yeah 200/210 is nice and the absolute minimum for me these days, but once you've gotten used to the extra length there's no going back. Fnar. 😁

My other bike has a 200mm brand X.

Money no object you say? Why, I'm a Santa Cruz serial owner, so I must go that route. My decision would obviously have nothing to do with build quality, guarantee or maintainability.

I have two BikeYoke Revive posts, they’re great. Regarding the drop you can fit, bear in mind that the longer the drop, the longer the post is within the frame and with bent seat tubes etc and ports for routing you can run into internal limitations before you run out of space on the outside. I think your Reverb must be 170 not 180mm unless I’m out of touch.

You're right, it is 170mm. So long ago that I bought it. I can have it fully inserted in the frame no worries, but will be checking that against any replacement post insertion length.

You can get a 200mm Tranz X dropper for around £65 if you wanted a cheaper option, I think Bikeyoke droppers are a class above everything else but all the rest seem to be pretty similar in function so paying loads isn't worth it.

Agreed, I have the Trans X / Brand X adjustable post 170 to 200mm. It's brilliant with a Shimano MT500 lever. Total cost £80. Why pay more?

I just upgraded a PNW 180mm dropper to a 210mm Oneup dropper and a Brand X 200mm drop one to One up 240mm dropper as I fancied more drop, both posts where at the max insertion for my preffed saddle height. Cant fault either Oneup dropper, they seem to be able to squeeze more drop out of the same space, they go up and down like they should and thankfully as all posts mentioned were cable with clamping at the lever, swapping ony involved changing the posts no bleeds or new cables etc.

^ lucky you. Mine is slammed to the L frame at 170mm and I would have to grow longer legs to go to 200mm. I do remember my OneUp dropper being optimised for max travel what with the thin collar so I guess I am missing out on 10mm or so.

Yeah Oneup does seem to be optimized, when comparing it side by side with the Brand X one what struck was that the post and rails go all the way down, on the brand X it appears to have some visible post which isnt used when dropping, I also noticed the stack height of the rail clamping, it was noticably lower in stack height then the brand x.
