Hi all,
Before I spend a lot of money on all this and get the parts sent out, just wondering if I'm missing some glaring detail.
My frame is a Big Bro 2019:
Tubing: - 4130 Chromoly steel - double-butted main triangle, ED coated
Brake compatibility; 51mm IS disc brake mount, 180mm max rotor size
Dropouts: 12x142mm thru axle
Seat post diameter: 30.9mm
Seat clamp diameter: 33.1mm
Headset: 44mm, SHIS ZS44/28.6 upper, EC44/40 lower
Front derailleur clamp diameter: 34.9 mm high direct-mount (adapter available separately)
Bottom bracket shell: 73mm bottom bracket, ISO threaded
Maximum tyre clearance: 29" x 2.6", 27.5" x 3.0" (note: not all drivetrains allow for these maximum tyre clearances)
Fork : 4130 Chromoly tapered unicrown fork, ED coated. 15x100mm thru axle
Full-length cable housing guides for derailleurs and brakes
3 sets bottle cage mounts on all sizes
Chainring clearance: up to 48-36-26t triple, 42-28t double, 38t single
Weight: medium (18") frame 2.6kg, fork (300mm steerer) 1.37kg
Tested to ISO 4210 MTB standard
I want to upgrade to some 100mm SIDs.
- Use: MTB, Cross Country
- Wheel size: 29"
- Travel: 100mm
- Spring: Debon Air
- Damping: Charger Race Day
- Adjustments: Handlebar remote (Remote not included), External Rebound, 2-position compression (open/lock)
- Steerer: Tapered 1.5" to 1 1/8"
- Steerer length: 228mm
- Upper Tubes: 32mm
- Disc brake mount: Post Mount (PM6 - Direct Mount 160mm)
- Maximum Rotor Size: 200mm
- Drop out: 15x110mm Maxle Ultimate Boost
- Max Tire Diameter: 751mm
- Max Tire Width: 60mm
- Axle to Crown: 506mm
- Offset: 44mm
- Crown Outer Diameter: 56mm
I'm keeping the same wheel, so am buying spacers and a boost disc adapter.
This frame is designed to take 100mm forks.
I should be all good to go, right?
Thanks in advance,
FM
Yes... but it's a yukky way of doing it... get a new wheel 🙂
Yeah. I run the same on one of my bikes. You will never notice the difference.
Hmm, yeah, I know, and that's defo the next upgrade, but for now, money is an issue. Apart from the yuck factor, there's no issues with performance or anything using conversions?
Boost adaptors work absolutely fine. If you need to take the wheel out often secure them to the fork with double sided tape.
Does the fork that's on it have a tapered steerer tube? If so, then you should be good to go.
hmm, that said, Shimano WH-MT601-TL 29" Front Wheel only adds 80 quid.... minus the 25 quid for the conversion kit, maybe that's a more sensible option?
* yes, have tapered forks 🙂
Also, another question. What's the difference between these two apart from the 30 quid?

The remote is the difference between those two forks. Personally I wouldn't bother with one because I don't like handlebar clutter and don't race XC.
What they said about the boost adaptors. If you remove the front wheel often for transport or storage, keep an eye on those spacers!
Thanks again!
