[#474733]

Been riding for years, but never ridden with any suspension. Having had a go of my bro's Stinky at the weekend down the Skills Loop at Hamsterley, I'm now curious about suspension forks.

I've just fitted disk brakes too; I must be getting soft!

So, what suspension forks would you recommend for fitting to an Inbred? I have a 25 mile ride to the trails and then back again, so lockout and not too heavy is probably important, but so is cost. Don't need long travel or anything.

This is the bike:

Reba's, or Recon solo air's which are more simple to set up/adjust.

25 miles to the trails, 2 hours each way? Crikey

....and what they said - Rebas are ace or MX comps

'...and what they said - Rebas are ace or MX comps'

MX Comps may be cheap and bombproof, but their performance is utter shite compared to modern RS forks.

Mike - this is probably the best deal out there at the minute - < http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=880&categoryId=18>

Hamsterly is never 25 miles from Darlo. I used to ride there and back to ride regularly back in the day. I thought it was about 16.

That said there were some horrid hills

As far as the forks go, Recons are good cheap light forks that perform much better than they cost IMH. However I just sold them for some Fox F120s and they are fantastic.

That's my instinctive reaction.

Jeez 50 miles BEFORE you start riding!

Just 25 before, then 25 after. I don't do it that often though.

Carbon scares me 🙂

24.3 miles each way the way that I go, with about 2500' of climbing altogether 😉

Rebas and Recon Solo Air are a bit pricey for me. Might have a look at something 2nd hand or just MTFU 🙂

My inbred boasts some MX Pros. Most 100mm forks should be good for an inbred. Brand will depend on year and preference. I trust my bombers because both pairs were some of the last made in italy ones.

Second Hand Rebas - I just sold a pair for about £120 that were 3 years old.

Why would you ride 50m on the road with flat pedals?

I've done double that on flat pedals. Dodgy knees = no SPDs.

Looks like you've got the same frame version as my inbred. I'd recommend 80 or 100mm forks, Im a fan of bombers, replaced my old z1 bombers with some of these.

Not actually used em yet so cant give you a review but they are coil marzocchis so should be very plush and last a long time, only £165.

Oh and they are lockdown, just the thing for road sections.

I've got the same frame as you Mike. Been meaning to post pics as ive just got it up together for the summer. Perhaps i'll get some tomorrow.

Anyway, ive got MX Comps on mine. 2005 i believe - no lockout unfortunately. I can see why with a 25 mile ride to the trail you'd want a lockout - (whispers) i'd probably get bored of SS over that distance...? Im sure i saw a pair of 105mm MX comps with eta on the classifieds yesterday for £60. Cant find them now, maybe i dreamt it! Cant fault my forks though. Would recommend them.

Found these but probably too steep for an inbred http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-marzocchi-mx-comps-eta-120mm-1
And these, they're long gone but might be an idea of price http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-rockhox-reba-sl

I've done 105 miles on a ss; it's just pedalling... In fact, with gears it'd all be at the same cadence, which must be more boring 🙂

Thanks for the links. I think I'll ponder it some more, figure out how much I can/want to spend and then start watching the classifieds.

I have a Marzocchi MX Lo that is sitting spare in my shed. 100mm coil sprung with remote lockout. Only 2 rides old, purchased last year for my girlfried who then bought a new bike. Let me know if interested. Looking for £75 posted.

Thanks Paul and oldgit for the sale offers, but my wife has informed me that I don't need suspension forks...

Shame that Mike , reckon £30 posted would have been about right .Or less if you were anywhere near Somerset.
