As of 5pm yesterday I have a lot of unexpected time on my hands. Rather than start a thread about redundancy and the sense of worthlessness and rejection that goes with it I'm job hunting.

I want a seasonal job somewhere in Europe where I can graft and ride my bike. But I've never done it before so I have no contacts, no idea where to head for etc..

Does anyone know of anyone that needs a mechanic/driver/trail builder/general dogsbody? Preferably somewhere with lift assisted riding or a solid trail network. I have a couple of bikes, a van, a tent and I want to drive south until I see mountains. And I'd rather meet new people and earn a few quid so I don't just end up on a long and expensive holiday.

Just need a few months of alone time in the mountains before I get back into the hopeless pit of despair that is the northeast job market.

Where would you go?

We are currently looking for a qualified mountain bike guide/mechanic for a September start.

If any of your qualified students are looking for a guiding job in Spain this is a good opportunity for a job in the sun showing our clients some great trails.

Please get them to contact us directly for more information.

www.sierracycling.com has all current information on our holidays.

Best Regards

Alan

Sounds intriguing. What exactly is going on in the black forest?

I'm not qualified to be a guide but I can see myself in sunny Spain without stretching my imagination too far. I'd love to be based there.

Short-term, I just want a break from the norm for a while. I've been going around in circles for the past few years and getting nowhere. I really need to get out of the northeast for a while and have one eye open for an opportunity that allows me to never come back. According to tonights BBC news it's the only place in the UK with rising unemployment and I just joined the list.

I'm not qualified to be a beauty therapist but thanks for the suggestions. The other one is a bit more realistic, I'd already found it here- Mpora

Might be worth getting yourself an appropriate First Aid qualification; always a useful skill to have anyway, but even more so if you're looking after (guiding) others in remote locations.

agree on this one - look at exmed.co.uk for courses (not sure if all of the courses are aimed at experienced folk though).

Chamonix - Job in a bar - Ride all day - work evenings.

You'll earn similar to working in a shop and have more time to ride during the day.

How about being a chalet host in ski resort that also has biking tails? Contact the tour companies and see if they have any jobs going?
