online it appears that the one I believe I need 'M661' is for 'triple chainsets, and the one they reccommend for double and bash set-ups doesnt come in direct mount option?

Am I missing something?

Use the triple one and set the limit screws so it uses only the range necessary for a double

Ah ok. It does seem strange that they wouldnt do a direct mount version of a specific double and bash though?

You can get a direct mount double, I have a SLX one. Had to order it from Spain though! Think it was an e-type then I removed the arm and mounted it 🙂

It is probably the e-type for two 9 speed rings, FD-M665E. You will need to remove one screw to make it direct mount compatible.
Excellent value and works really really well.

Be aware that direct mount and e-type without it's mount are not the same.
