Is there anyway you can contact the Met Police. Surely they could then follow the auctions through. The wheels are the first to end, so ideally if they win them, the other bits will still be at the property?
Why don't you bid? Offer a silly amount to ensure you win. Tell the seller you are not in the UK and that you will pay cash on collection when you return. Inform the police and get them to come with you when you collect?

I've a suggestion for you. This would be my way of dealing with it personally but anyhow, food for thought seeing as how useless the plod are.
Come together a group of friends and/or MTB riders local to you, if I was local i'd opt to do this. Everyone buys 1 part or another that this guy has for sale, so between you and your friends you've bought all your parts back, technically. Offer the seller cash on collection, seeing as it's some tealeaf shit head he will snap you up. 1 friend arrange a time to collect 1 item and viola, mini van full of angry MTBers use sheer number and force to overwhelm and reclaim item. Simples...
On the other hand, try calling the police and don't risk getting 15 or so of you arrested and a criminal record...

My mate's stolen bike appeared on ebay.
He "won" the bike and arranged to pick up. A police officer went in his place.
NB He got is bike back but bugger all happened to woman who had the bike at her house - just some deperate smack head holding the bike so the real culprits cant be touched.
oh and the bike got nicked again a few months later

Each police should be allowed a fake account that allows them to win an auction and request the other parties details (which you can do), the only downside being it gives yours too, which wouldnt much matter if it was a fake address.
Definitely get the police involved if you aren't there or slip a shady mate £50 to visit for you!
As a thought why not place a high, but not over the top, bid on one of the items to ensure no one else wins the auction or agrees a buy-it now price outside of ebay?

My mate is a policeman and only last week went round to someone's house as someone bought stuff on eBay that was stolen from them, got address, went to police station and police went round to sellers house. Bike was postcoded and original owner had serial number etc. they took it all back for him

Contact the Police flamejob, they will take it seriously. Areas of the Met are getting smashed for cycle thefts so it's a big deal at the mo. If you were on my borough, i would have offered to deal with it myself
Kato, whats the best way of suggesting that if the police dont do something you will personally see that this person pays so to speak without being arrested? Just enough to get them to act but not take it full circle and go after the innocent victim as so often happens?

My experience, of reporting seeing my stolen bike locked up outside York Uni, and having it delivered to my house in a police van later the same day, says different.
Police nabbed the guy that put my bike on ebay, brought it back to me and he went to prison for 6 months. Not all bad.
the guy obviously knows its stolen... hence braking down a perfectly good bike!

ebay should hand over the details of the winners of the other bits to the police so they can go get your bits.

Rang the police countless times, even made an appointment and saw them, sat in an interview room and they swore blind there was nothin they could do about it as because the lad lived in Shrewsbury the crime was commited in Shrewsbury and I live in Wigan...rang West Mercia police and they said it was down to Greater Manchester police.
This went to and fro for a while and I just gave up, they just weren't interested in the slightest

Thankfully, times have changed and the police are much more adept at dealing with eBay crime etc. not perfect but way, way better. Not going into specifics on here but much of what has been suggested, certainly happens regularly at my place. It's my team what do it.
That's pretty crap. For the record it was down to GMP to report the crime and West Mercia to investigate it, but that matters not

Probably worth making the point as well that eBay themselves have come on too, in terms of providing information in a time frame that empowers us to do something. Their processes going back 18 months to 2 years ago when I was acting on a Priority Crime Team was not the fastest turnaround TBH - far from it. Often victims would see it as police failings - when quite frankly it wasn't.

I am actually a bit distracted at the moment. So much so that I went and joined the tribe.
Tip: Don't drive through the desert the day after visiting the Yeti factory and the week after having your bike nicked, then visit a cool Moab bike shop. I must look like a right "all the gear no idea".
We are on the case and the cops seem pretty interested. They asked for a list and I gave them a pretty exhaustive one, including the fact the cranks are actually Touring ones, and loads of other inanely dull facts about every single part.
Parts found, bozo arrested.
So far the cops have most of the bits and can probably recover the fork and Seatpost.
Score. Well done Met cops.
Its 3AM here and I am sleep deprived from driving all yesterday (I also went for a sneaky ride near Vail on the way to Denver)

It is good to see the Police now acting very quickly on ebay goods.
tbh ebay is a very good way to catch them as the goods are nicely catalogued with pictures along with previous sales, the owner can find the goods themselves and the person has details on their account that even if not completely accurate can normally allow them to be traced somehow.

In case the courts don't go to town you just need to get a photo of him and produce a similar poster to your nicked one saying he is a paedophile and stick up up around his neighbourhood to ensure he gets some natural justice.

I do feel like some kind of total nerd for being able to describe every tiny scratch and alteration on the parts. That's kinda weird. Incidentally the fork is a TALAS RC so someone got a pleasant surprise when their fork was delivered. I wonder why they listed it as a VAN? It even has TALAS on the stickers.
Maybe the mag should do a feature on the lovely Detective that did all the good work. I had his details because a friend (unknowingly) bought a stolen titanium Brompton on eBay and had to give it back. DC involved was really respectful, friendly and helpful.
