Be wary of buying from this user:

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/profile/cllr-hodgen

I recently bought some cranks from him. On receipt, I wasn't happy with the condition so emailed him a couple of times, and gave him a nudge on a thread he started, but he isn't replying.

I understand Caveat Emptor, and realise that this is my tough shit, but I personally think this is contrary to the "spirit" of the classifieds. So just be aware.

I think anyone should be wary of someone in the Classifieds who has only ever posted in the Classifieds.

You got an XT chainset for £50. Did you ask for a report on the condition and/or get any photos before you bought it?

I understand Caveat Emptor,

Like most laws there is another side that protects the buyers from misrepresentative advertising.
But as Flashy says...

I got some crank arms for £55. There's no bottom bracket, the big chainring is too worn to use, the middle ring is above average wear with hooked teeth and the granny ring is ok. The arms have grooves worn in them, and in my experience will not be long before they go through, and there's deep scoring at the bearing interface with the axle. Yes, I saw photos but they didn't show any of this.

However, my beef is the lack of communication. Like I said, I understand it's now my tough luck, but refusing to answer my emails or respond online is just a bit rubbish and doesn't give me any confidence.

If anyone had a problem with anything I sold on here I'd at the very least answer emails as soon as I got them. The chances are if there was an issue I would refund.

Good man. Thanks for highlighting!

Thanks for being as "fair" as I would be. The more "unfair" a seller is the more they benefit from a spotlight.

See how non- judgemental I am there. The only ever Question / problems I've ever ever had on here are sorted almost immediately- ie buyer isnt happy - seller agrees. That's how it should work. Seller relists with up-to-date description.

My problem is that after being on here for years (since way before the hack as mark2404) I've never had a bad transaction on classifieds. This has encouraged a certain level of trust, which I don't think is such a bad thing, though having this happen to me, and reading similar threads, may be unrealistic.

I'd be miffed also.

I sold some XT cranks. If I thought that there was less than a years use in any of the rings I'd say so.
Any wear should be mentioned, wear = worn/worn out.
Not mentioning heel rub is extremely naughty

Ive been at the thick end of this kind of thing too. (not on here)

I realise you are hacked off at being ignored. I imagine you had requested pictures of the goods so that you could make a decision about parting with your hard earned.

Your right to have trust, you have to go on your gut instinct and judgement of the goods pictured.

If you feel that the goods were pictured to hide the marks and wear you describe then that's not on imo.

Its a gamble though isnt it, be wary next time. Never deal with the guy again.

Your post will allow folk like me to check this guy out.
