Painstakingly built over the past few months. Rode like an absolute dream. But the boss has called time on my toy collection and something has to give.
Very sad times.

Seriously? Assuming you mean SWMBO - she's let you build it, now you have to sell it at a huge loss? Great.

If that's your dream bike why not sell one of the others?

If the best offer you could get was £450 would she change her mind? You've probably knocked £1000 off the value with non matching valve caps!

Show her this.

It's now only worth 50% of what you paid for it. No warranty you see as the buyer would not be the original owner.

I have an idea which will save you.
.
Tell her you've sold it. Then give it to me to look after for a while, say a year or so. I'll ride it and then give it back and you can tell you've bought a used bike and saved a fortune.

I'm assuming that the boss is your partner?

If so ask her to list the amount she spends on:
Shoes, Make up, Hair Do's, Magazines, Handbags, Nails etc in a month and then tell us it makes sense for you to sell your bike.

You need to creep up to the Boss's handbag when she's not looking and retrieve your balls back from inside it.

However, if the Bosss's orders are influenced by aesthetics then I'm on her side. Yukkkk!

Hehe, some great replies, I may try some of them!

To be honest, she has a point and we had a frank discussion where we decided that the amount of use this bike will get will probably not justify the cost!

A shame, but in the future I will get my toys back!

Unless you're desperate for rent/mortgage money or you need immediate scrotum surgery then frigg sell something else or get rid (of the boss), you'll lose a retarded amount off money selling it 2nd hand.

but as above, now you have it the amount you would use it would be more than worth the amount you'll lose by selling it. so it's better value to keep it and ride it as much as possible. seriously, long term the amount you'll get for it is **** all. just keep the thing.

@supertacky. My partner is fantastic, we have been saving for a house deposit, she hasn't been shopping for a long time.
I originally had my half of the deposit and she was saving to get hers, we have found the perfect house and so we need a bit more deposit!

so maybe you shouldn't have bought it. but now you have, there's no logic in selling it. might as well appreciate it.

Yeh, I think the amount I can get for it is going to play a possible role. wouldn't want to loose too much!

I'll stick it in the classifieds at some point and see what happens.

I shouldn't have bought it no. It was silly of me. I've recently changed jobs and cut my wage by over half.
I guess I hadn't thought about how much that would impact me financially. My partner has been very supportive of this, but there comes a point!

Just say no. Life is too short to be separated from your dream bike, and a good chunk of the cash is gone forever anyway.

does the money it will sell for make a difference to your situation?; that is quite different from what you paid for it.

You're an embarrassment to us all, especially with the mismatched valve caps, non lined up tyre logos and unruly front brake hose.

Shocking.

Whilst I stand to loose a fair bit of money most of my other crap wouldn't raise as much as this bike will, so its logical really, sort of, well not really, but life is about sacrifice sometimes. I want a house! I'm fed up of renting!

Got to be said, your timing is impeccably bad! You're looking for your dream house, but get bored and spunk several grand on your dream bike, ride it once, then find your dream house!

That's one VERY expensive bike ride!

Unlike some others on here have said, your missus sounds pretty reasonable to be fair. BUT... You probably need to tell her just how much money you stand to lose on this bike. Doesn't make sense at all to sell something when you've ridden it once and will lose 50% of the value.

mboy it is yes.
I bought the bike when I thought we had shelved the house idea. Then it turns out my partner has a bit more money than she thought, and then gets a bit of money from her parents. Now I am in the situation of, if I can find an extra couple of grand we can probably get the house.

I love my bikes, but I want to start my life proper and get this house. So to be fair it was her suggestion, and one I agreed to.

I would love to keep this bike, but how many times will it get out in a year? I use my road bike twice a day, everyday in comparison.

Dream house is more important than dream bike I would say . I would also negotiate like mad to get enough off the house to be able to keep my bike if possible .

bikebouy, not my intention.
Originally this was meant to be a wohoo, look at my new bike thread...after finishing it last week.
I'm going to hold onto it for a bit, I think it does need a few more rides at least!

That bike should only be sold if your in financial hardship, trying to make a mortgage payment etc

To sell it to help get a house is madness, buy a house when you can afford to, no point
Being a house and not living 😉

It looks like its had a head on with a tree at 40mph, i.e. pug ugly geometry, that would drive me mad, that and the fact its the product of a marketing department. Not for me ta

LOL 🙂

First, split it. It's your dream bike not anyone else's so you'll never get a good price on it as built.

Then, given that the frame and fork are probably what you'll lose most on due to lack of warranty, keep that and sell the other bits. Then built it up with cheaper bits from other bikes you already have by the sounds of it.

edit. just spotted the fox fork. sell that and get something decent.

I sympathise.

We've been looking for a house for 18 months, putting our lives on hold and saving like mad. Then, a couple of weeks ago, we got fed up and spunked a fair chunk of the deposit on a new car for him and a new full suss for me.

Guess what we found 2 days later ... yep, our dream house!

Anyone want to buy my boyfriend's bright yellow Lotus?

Think you guys are all missing that the OP is BS and the guy is quite willing to sell his bike.
As mentioned I think this is an elaborate classified attention ad.
Nobody has such tiny balls they put up with this if they weren't at least partly going along with it/trying to appease the wife.
Not even a triathlete.
