Got to be said, your timing is impeccably bad! You're looking for your dream house, but get bored and spunk several grand on your dream bike, ride it once, then find your dream house!

That's one VERY expensive bike ride!

Unlike some others on here have said, your missus sounds pretty reasonable to be fair. BUT... You probably need to tell her just how much money you stand to lose on this bike. Doesn't make sense at all to sell something when you've ridden it once and will lose 50% of the value.

Reduce your stem length and she might change her mind.

mboy it is yes.
I bought the bike when I thought we had shelved the house idea. Then it turns out my partner has a bit more money than she thought, and then gets a bit of money from her parents. Now I am in the situation of, if I can find an extra couple of grand we can probably get the house.

I love my bikes, but I want to start my life proper and get this house. So to be fair it was her suggestion, and one I agreed to.

I would love to keep this bike, but how many times will it get out in a year? I use my road bike twice a day, everyday in comparison.

Right answer, I've got rid of loads of bits an pieces recently which on their own have financed a bike.

Ride it at least once more. Then you've halved the cost/ride.

Dream house is more important than dream bike I would say . I would also negotiate like mad to get enough off the house to be able to keep my bike if possible .

There's the cleverest person here. Tom employ Duane as your personal finance manager.

bikebouy, not my intention.
Originally this was meant to be a wohoo, look at my new bike thread...after finishing it last week.
I'm going to hold onto it for a bit, I think it does need a few more rides at least!

That bike should only be sold if your in financial hardship, trying to make a mortgage payment etc

To sell it to help get a house is madness, buy a house when you can afford to, no point
Being a house and not living 😉

It looks like its had a head on with a tree at 40mph, i.e. pug ugly geometry, that would drive me mad, that and the fact its the product of a marketing department. Not for me ta

LOL 🙂

First, split it. It's your dream bike not anyone else's so you'll never get a good price on it as built.

Then, given that the frame and fork are probably what you'll lose most on due to lack of warranty, keep that and sell the other bits. Then built it up with cheaper bits from other bikes you already have by the sounds of it.

edit. just spotted the fox fork. sell that and get something decent.

Anyone else noticed recently that any thread with a 29er in it quickly brings out the 29er-phobics? Wonder what their issue is.

I sympathise.

We've been looking for a house for 18 months, putting our lives on hold and saving like mad. Then, a couple of weeks ago, we got fed up and spunked a fair chunk of the deposit on a new car for him and a new full suss for me.

Guess what we found 2 days later ... yep, our dream house!

Anyone want to buy my boyfriend's bright yellow Lotus?

.

.

.

(well, I'm not selling my bike!)

Why can't you get rid of the road or TT bike? They look the same bar the bars! Or you could TT on the Niner with that stem... 😉

OP and your missus, you're looking at this the wrong way round. Keep the bike and negotiate the house price down.

Can I suggest you take her to the moon and back a couple of times one night and then state you are keeping the bike. This is not theoretical...

Think you guys are all missing that the OP is BS and the guy is quite willing to sell his bike.
As mentioned I think this is an elaborate classified attention ad.
Nobody has such tiny balls they put up with this if they weren't at least partly going along with it/trying to appease the wife.
Not even a triathlete.

I've been married a long old time and I have to say that if you are discussing your situation on here instead of talking to her about it you are just storing up trouble for your self.

Wow, some very cynical people on here. I guess that's from being a cyclist, I'm starting to feel that cycling is making me more angry and more cynical everyday!

For what it's worth part of me does want to sell the bike, it was great to ride yes, but I only took up mountain biking as a bit of fun and I can't help thinking the most fun I had was bashing around Cannock on a beaten up anthem. This bike would never get the use it deserves as I just don't care enough. I've loved building the thing, but I think this was one bike too far, I can't keep pretending I'm on my old wage.

Don't worry though guys, if I do decide to sell it I won't need to write on here anymore!

I'd be very wary of making assumptions that people on here are cyclists. Judging from the cyclist safety threads it's populated more by frustrated motorists.

Tom - I wasn't being cynical, just observant of behaviour similar to that which has been seen many times before when posters use the bike or chat forum to get some interest going in a piece of kit, often bike or car, that they are wanting to sell, recognising that these forums see a lot more views than the classifieds.

If you are genuinly being pressured into selling it due to the need to fund other life purchases then it's a real shame, and as others have said,if you could find a way to keep it rather than take a loss selling, that would surely be better all round for you ?

you say this.

Wow, some very cynical people on here.

and then go on to say this.

For what it's worth part of me does want to sell the bike,

proving that I/we are right. So not cynical, just able to see through bullshit.

For what it's worth i don't care if you tout for business selling your bike or not. just thought it was funny people wasting their time giving you suggestions to help you keep a bike you quite clearly want shot of.
