Is it worth it in other words? I already have all my tried and tested kit that I would use and the rest of the bike is surplus to needs. If it isnt worth it- I'd like to know!
Fork RockShox Pike 409 U-Turn 95-140mm
Rear Hub Shimano Deore, 32 Hole Disc
Front Hub Alloy, 32 Hole Disc
Spokes DT 15 Gauge Black Stainless
Rims WTB SpeedDisc All Mountain, Double Wall, 32 Hole Disc
Tyres Kenda Nevegal 26 x 2.3in
(Obviously sell the wheels as a wheelset inc tyres)
Shift Levers SRAM X-5 Trigger 9 Speed
Front Derailleur Shimano Deore
Rear Derailleur SRAM X-7, 8/9 Speed
Cassette SRAM PG-950, Power Glide II, 9 Speed, 11-34
Chain Shimano HG-53
Crankset TruVativ Blaze, Rock Guard, 36/24 with Power Spline
Bottom Bracket TruVativ Power Spline Cartridge
Seatpost Comp Alloy Micro Adjust, 30.9mm x 350mm
Saddle WTB Pure V Sport
Bar A-XC Double Butted 6061 Alloy, OS-31.8mm, 42mm Rise
Stem Gravity FR200 OS Threadless with Alloy Face Plate, with 31.8mm Bar Clamp
Grips WTB MotoTec Locking with Drop Guard End Plugs
Brakes Avid Juicy 3 Hydraulic Disc
Pedals Shimano M520 Clipless

Anything on there majorish worth anything?

Hmmm that makes the frame £900 (its a clearance 2008 Marin Rock Springs)

I just did similar with a FuelEx. As a guide, for standard items like cassettes, derailleurs, etc. I'd reckon you'd get CRC or Merlin price (whatever's lower) less about 10%.

For bigger ticket items like brakesets, wheels and fork you need to be considerably lower. eg: I sold a set of Avid J5's for £100 vs £130 on merlin; Fox forks for £285 vs £500 retail (no Merlin / CRC direct equiv as they were Trek special 130mm). Obviously you can get better prices if you are prepared to wait for the right buyer but I prefer to shift the stuff on reasonably quickly and cash it in.

Bear in mind too you'll probably want to keep the seatpost and front derailleur as these tend to be specific to the frame in question (you know what I mean) and also that unless you're lucky enough to get a cash and collect buyer you'll pick up quite a lot in paypal fees and postage.

It's not a money maker but for me the point is twofold, 1. to stick with stuff you know and love (eg: I still use 8spd and a decent tubeless wheelset that i swap between bikes) and 2. it enabled me to get 'frame only' on an Alu FuelEx, whereas the only frameset available is the full carbon one.

Nothing hidden here, i kept count of my recent foray and I reckon I sold my parts for around £675 whereas the CRC/Merlin valuation was about £950, of which by far the biggest 'loss' was on the fork. [edit] I also reckon I picked up about another £50 total in postage and paypal fees.

So net effect was that once I factored in the value of the fork that went on there (which was already in the garage waiting) and offset the Trance Frame and fork that was sold to make way for it - I guess it cost me about £500 for a new FuelEx frame, derailleur & seatpost.

£350 to £400 total for that lot I reckon.

Did the same thing for my most recent bike. You might as well hang on to the consumables too.

depends if consumables are useful or not. Cassette and chain I'd agree generally, but if you don't like sram no point in holding an X7 derailleur for example. Or indeed, no sense for me with my 8 spd obsession.

Once bought a Marin East Peak for £800 new off eBay from some shop. Think things went ballistic on the bidding for the bits (forks and disks went for more than you could buy in the shops...). In the end all told everything sold for £815 so basically a free frame!

After a quick tot-up, I reckon I could get over £500 for that lot fairly easily.

I ve also done it myself. Forks, Wheels and brakes normally go well. But you would still get another £100 - £150 for the rest. I recon £400 to £500
