No - eg you can get 200mm shocks with 50 or 57mm strokes.
read the question ๐
irrepective of i2i length can for example a shock with a shaft length of 60mm only have 50mm sroke or must a shocks stroke always be the full length of its shaft?
no.
in a lot of cases it almost does, but some shocks are custom made with diffrent shaft/body lengths to cope with different frame designs. Trek liquids being the first example that springs to mind and 04-06 spesh enduro's
No, you thats why some shocks have bumpers on the reduce the stroke. What shock? air or coil?
Both air and coil can have spacers in them eg triad shock 190mm x 50 but with a spacer to make it 1.75" stroke also the enduro with a 222 mm eye to eye coli shock has a 1/4" spacer in it,as did some older sc shock/frame combos
the shock I was thinking of was a fox float rl ava which is 200 i2i and has a shaft of 57 that was defiantely sold to me as a 50 stroke. if it is the case it has a spacer, are they easy to remove?
Deffo would nt have 1 in that shock, it would have a longer seal block which would need a full strip down an the shorter part to sort, service centre job sorry. What bike are you looking at fitting it to ?
it might fit anyway, just check the frame clearances as it bottoms out, might give you another 10-20mm travel.
its one I have just taken off my prophet and has been replace by a dhx 5.0 air, I just wanted to make sure of this before I sell it, I guess I will have to reinstall on the bike and give it a proper test
if all you wnat to know is if it will go the full length, so to speak, take the spring off and let the air out then push it through its stroke by hand.
๐ I know that,I just wanted my original question answered, think I understand now 8)
FYI accoring to fox
8)the air sleeve must be removed to expose the shaft for measuring stroke
