We'd like to know a little bit about your for our files. It's pretty important for us that we know who you are. That's how we can make sure we are doing the right things for our users and subscribers. So every so often we will ask you to complete a poll or tow. There's one here and it's a simple one. How old are you? Below you should see a poll. If you don't it's possible that you are not logged in to the site. If you don't have an account you can create one in under a minute…

This is interesting actually. Practically everyone in my club seems to be mid 40-60. Seems old for such an activity, but maybe reflects both the high cost of buying mtb gear, and also maybe the fact that the club's only really advertised on Facebook which is an old person's network.

Straight into the first category >17. But now I look at the other options I probably needed to select two?

"Straight into the first category >17."

Yeah, I think the first category should have been <18.
Curiously, this is a question that came to my mind a few days ago after reading some responses on a thread in the forum, so this could not have been a better time for it from my perspective.

I have to admit the current results aren't too far off what I was expecting.

Youngsters don't bother with forums, do they? Seems I'm bang on trend at 48.

Standard market research survey design (as someone who works in that field).

Of course the challenge is self-selection bias: the figures represent the old gits who remember when this forum was all just fields, and are engaged enough to read the thread and want to answer. Still interesting though!

About 25 when I'm gearing up to head out for a ride ...

About 65 10 minutes into the ride ...

About 75 after the ride ...

Real age 57.

Looks like I am one of the younger ones here at 32. But have always been a bit of an "old soul" and I love the wisdom and experience shared in this forum.

So that's why singlespeeding died out on here, most of us got too old.

I didn't even take up singlespeeding until I was nearly 60. I almost always had a beard though.

Spotify says I'm 26 - i think they got that the wrong way round. Something to do with the TR ask a cycling coach podcast age i'm guessing

Daughters (23) came in at 47!

You've swapped playlists - my lad is listening to a lot of 70s/80s, I've been listening to a lot of his newer stuff.  He's 63 apparently

My listening age is 33.  A whole 39 years younger than my actual age, which is exactly the age that the adverts on ITV4 (only watch it for TdF) think I am.

Doesn’t really surprise me that the predominant age range is in the 40’s or thereabouts, I would guess that’s the age when there’s more disposable income available, and also time available to get out and ride.
I’m in the process of getting my single speed back on the road, the original Hope M4’s have gone beyond saving, parts are no longer available, not surprising for a twenty-odd year old product that’s been sat in a shed for half that time, so new Calipers are on their way, so I’ll have two bikes to get out on. As a 71, going on 72 year old, it’s been hard work getting used to riding again, but I’ve noticed a difference. Less tolerance to cold and wet conditions, mind!

Mental age:  Ask my wife

Spotify Age:   What's Spotify 😜😂

Actual Age: 78

Btw, interesting CountZero  thinks that the 40's age group is most likely to have the disposable income and time available. In my own case, yes to the disposable income but a definite NO to available time as it was a time for me when I was away for work and on planes a lot of the time. My home time was definitely for my family.

I've been here long enough to remember when installing wood burners was all the rage...... Back then I was in my twenties and thought I must have been one of the younger ones....

Quite gratified that although I thought I would be one of the oldest gits I'm in the second most popular age bracket. Just shows that keep mountain biking and you won't notice how old you are. (Well, apart from......)

80

Having problems with singlespeed now. Not my legs, they're still fine, but heart problems. My kids are surprised at that, they didn't think I had one.

Worse thing is I'm going to have to drop my entry in the StrathPuffer. There is a solo singlespeed entry going abegging.

Now that I'm old and frail I did think about gears and suspension, but everyone told me I should get an electric bike. Took a look and made the sensible decision, spent my money on a new motorbike instead. 🙂

Bit sad to see the U35 age bands so sparsely populated. Hopefully it’s a full member skew effect.

Does this mean we’ll start seeing ads for stairlifts, walk in baths, funeral payment plans and Dignitas?
