Not important, a smidge or crank it until deforms the tyre?

I crank it until I can rotate the bikes wheel back and forth without it slipping. Tends to deform the tyre a little. If I don't do this then it tends to slip a lot and pedalling gets really jerky.

As little as possible, as long as it doesn't slip.

make sure you've got at least 80psi in your trainer tyre. I'd also recomend a proper trainer tyre

As much as possible, crank it at 120psi in 53/23 and MTFU

Not sure why you'd have less than 80 psi...

deform the tyre by roughly the amount it deforms when you sit on the bike on flat ground.
